I just purchased a new computer, a quad-core AMD A8, w/4GB RAM and 64-bit Windows 7. I upgraded from BIAB 2009.5 t0 BIAB 2012, installed from my discs and all seemed well. But when I opened a BIAB tune in RB I sometimes get various buzzes during playback. These are not electrical buzzes but rather data buzzes at different frequencies. Sometimes I make it through playback with only one episode, sometimes it happens continually. Any ideas as to what could cause this? ASIO drivers? Do I need different drivers for the 64-bit version of Windows? I'm only using 3 tracks with no plug-ins. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Chuck.

Try switching to MME drivers and see if that stops it. This will tell you if it's an ASIO problem. If it is an ASIO problem, the most common cause is the buffer size - try increasing it. If you don't know how to do this, get back to us.

I tried switching to the MME drivers and got virtually nothing. Maybe I should explain my setup, I use a Line 6 UX2 guitar interface as my input, and the computer's card as the output. I tried messing around with the buffer size, but I have no idea which one I am playing with, I found buffer adjustments in 2 or 3 different places. I can use any advice anyone can share on setting up these buffer settings. When I play the track, I'm still getting various buzzes lasting about 1 second at different frequencies and different volumes. I guess I need a plan of action in order to know where to look for the problem, as opposed to trial and error, which is what I have been doing.....................thanks folks!

I once had a serious buzz running the pg stuff from my laptop. Could trace it for yonks.

One saturday i "forgot" to switch the power on and the buzz was gone !!!! , turned out it was the power supply ...

Replaced it with my downstairs spare and voila, buzz-free ever since!

Chuck.

Before we try anything else, make sure that when you play the track back you're not overloading the main output. If you've got the output meter on the toolbar, watch that to see if it's going into the red. If you haven't got that meter, open the VU meters using the button on the toolbar.

If the level is too high use the ALL fader on the mixer to bring the level down. If that isn't the problem, we'll start to look in more detail at the buffers.

I use a Line 6 UX2 also. I use it for both input and output.
Here are my settings on the UX2.

Default buffer size 4096
ToneDirect and USB Audio streaming: 1 notch down from Extra Large.

ROG- The meters do not go above -14db. One strange thing though,---the track seems to go by very quickly (visually), and each sound looks like a blank music staff with 4 or 5 horizontal lines. I have never seen this before, could it have something to do with using the 64-bit Windows version as opposed to the 32-bit?
PETE- When I changed my settings to 4096 and one notch below X-large, I get the following error message:
"Access violation at address 00781D5C in module 'realband.exe'. Read of address 3F34FDF8 at: 00781D5C".
I have no idea what is going on here, but I truly thank you guys for your help.

RB is 32 bit and should load into the Programs x86 Folder.

Lyn - BIAB and RB should not be loaded into the "Program Files(x86)", nor the "Program Files" folder, for that matter. Windows Vista, 7, (and presumably 8) expect that programs installed to those folders deal with the OS via the registry. BIAB does not use the registry and that causes problems when installed to those folders. It is best to install to either the preferred C:\BB or another folder not under one of the "Program Files" folders. On my computer, I have created a folder call "C:\Apps" and load programs like BIAB and RealBand into C:\Apps. But that's just me.

I think we can finally put this issue to bed. The strange visual display was a zoom issue (I had no idea it was zoomed in), but when I zoomed out it returned to normal. The buzzing and subsequent error message was due to the UAC,---I turned the UAC off and the buzzing issue went away. Many thanks to Kent at pgmusic,---GREAT customer service! And of course thank you to all of you who tried to help, I hope to get involved and return your generosity.
Thank You All,
Chuck
