How long does it normally take for the Mac to catch up with Windows

Ok, so nobody knows when Mac 2013 is released. What normally happens is it 1 month after or 2 or 6. Will the upgrade offers apply.

Granted that the Mac version is usually a few of months behind the Windoze version, but the last few Mac updates have really done a lot to close the feature gap between the 2 versions.

Here's to hoping the next version finally closes some of the "platform disparities" gripes we keep hearing around here on the Mac side.

That being said, the Mac version can't be far behind, and PG usually has a pretty liberal policy as far as "grace period" on updates goes.

Myself, I'm not as concerned with the new version being released as quickly as possible, I would much rather wait a bit and have something when it is really ready to ship and stable.

PG has always been very good in that respect, so MalcomH ...me... myself, if I was looking to buy now, I'd wait a bit (I wouldn't buy right now and hope to be in the "grace period" ) There are always good deals/ discounts offered when the new version comes out.

Just my $.02, hopefully it helps.

Thankyou Jay,

2012.5 is a huge improvement over V12 that I had.

I was considering purchasing some extra real tracks but will wait until 2013 comes along

Here's to hoping ver. 2013 is not far off, I finally had a chance to listen to most of the new RealTracks demos.
Wow! There is a lot of good stuff in there !

I was also curious about the "Song Form" function, is it going to be like a new arrangement window, someplace where choruses, verses, and bridges can be re-arranged to try different arrangements on the fly ?
Something like that could be very useful, and time saving.

Also sorry to dredge up an old thread, as I said, I have only now had time to look over all the new features and listen to all the tracks tracks.

I just hope that for Mac BIAB 2013 they clean up the interface. It's still a real pain that I can see measures 1-64, but if I jump ahead, I'm looking at 65-128. There's no way I can work with 8 or 16 bars in the middle of a song (say, measures 57-72), at the same time on the same screen. A long-standing issue, and frustrating enough that I still rely on the Windows version when I'm dealing with the overall structure of a song. Please, PG, fix this in BIAB 2013, and do whatever you can to make working with the product easier and more intuitive.

Agreed, the 1-64 thing is most annoying.

I find 2012.5 to have many bugs...in addition to my beefs on Notation (different thread), my melody tracks play when I'm using Mac DLS built-in synths, but when I use Garritan JABB3 the melody track is just totally lost. Have tried BIAB output, IAC, manually set every track trying to find the melody track - nothing. Can't find it, gone, lost when using something other than the DLS. I suppose I could export the melody to DAW with DLS, then go back to JABB3 for the rest (and for real tracks I guess it doesn't matter).

I hope PG doesn't mess with building new features, but just fixes the bugs. They really undermine the user experience. If all you want is background chords and rhythm section, where all you need is a chord progression, meter and style, then 2012.5 is great. But if you want to create your own fake sheets...I'd use other notation software. I'll have to look in the FAQs to see if there is a notation software that interfaces with BIAB...I guess that could be a workaround.

I'm still learning 2012.5! I agree with some of the issues raised, about that cluttered interface, but I suspect we all knew BIAB was like that before we bought it.

I do wish there was some of way of viewing and editing a whole song, on one screen, but if, like me, you drag BIAB tracks into a DAW, then that's probably the best place. Otherwise, BIAB starts to become a DAW in itself and it's unlikely to be a better DAW than the ones already out there.
