I can see how I can change the volume of a midi track (up to 127 whatever notional value that is) but how do I do it with a RT? The RD track is way too quiet and I would like to get it up at least 6db, as my Cakewalk GTPro2 would have it. How do I do it please? Ian

For audio tracks you just raise it on the volume fader. As I know you know, MIDI reads digital values, 0~127. Audio tracks read decibels.

Hi Eddie. Thanks for the reply. That's EXACTLY my point. With Fader up at 100% its too quiet. I know I could drop all other Faders until I get the result but that defeats the object. In my simple old DAW (Cakewalk GTPro2 from 2004) all I gotta do is bump it up 3db at a time. I can't believe that the only way I can get the track louder is to Export the wave file, tweak it in a program considered antiquated and then import it in again. That's got to be crazy! Ian

Select the track, right click, select audio effects, then gain change, then boost it by Xdb.

Hi Eddie. Couldnt get it to work at first but I found I had to highlight the whole track and then it did it. Many thanks Sorry to be a pain - I just tried it with one of the midi tracks. Even though I highlighted the track it says "no audio data in hightlighted area" because its NOT Audio of course. Where is the volume changer for the midi track please? Just as an observation - if I move a Fader to a new position and "Save" why do they return to their original positions the moment I press "Play". That is REALLY annoying. Am I missing something - like a Brain? Ian

Many Midi files have control values set in each track which take precedence over entries made in the Mixer - select each track, open the Event Window(F2) and delete any Controller 7 "Volumn" or 10 "Pan" entries. The volumn changer for Midi is by means of the Volumn control slider. If you wish increase the overal gain in a track use Edit > Change Velocities.

I don't have a problem with low levels.... exporting from BB I make sure NORMALIZE is checked. In Real Band, the tracks always seem to be created with a full wave and plenty of volume for the job.
And I never do my mixing in the RB sequencer.... I always export to Sonar and work in there. I don't think I have ever had to use any sort of gain increase on the RB tracks....
Since mine works like I want I have never bothered to look in the settings but.... I'd check those to see if there is something you could tweek to bump the levels a bit.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Hi Lyn and Herb Up until now everything I have ever done has been Audio - this working with midi thing is a whole new ballgame to me. Thanks for the tip - I hit the F2 key, and deleted the 7 and 10 lines as you suggested and now it looks as if I can control the output on the sliders, just like I would do in my old DAW (GTPro2) If I go into Edit - velocity changes, nothing I do in there seems to make any difference. I thought I woiuld be absurd and try 200% UP to see if it would peak but nothing happens.
I used to work like Guitarhacker and take my midi tracks one by one as wav's into my DAW to work on the whole thing as an Entity. I hoped I could get away without doing that in RealBand. Maybe I can't. The main reason I tweak the levels is to have more Drum and Bass as far too many midis are a bit lifeless for Live solo guitar work (like me) and it does Pep the track up for use at a Gig. cheers ian

In the Edit > Change Velocities, you will see a box entitled "Normalize". If you check this box then the velocity levels are maximised relative to the highest velocity in the track which will now be value 127.
Midi sounds are only as good as the quality of the Synth used to supply the sounds. Midi tracks usually require the Midi Code to be developed to emulate a real performer. It is a completely different ballgame.

Sixchannel,
Like you, I sometimes find an audio track, whether it be a generated Realtrack or just a midi track converted to audio, to be too soft. If you are trying to increase the volume of an Audio track, here's another way:
Click on the square little "fx" button on the audio track you want to boost. This will open up a small vst/dxi window. In the lower right-hand corner of this window is a round knob labeled "Trim". Grab it and turn clockwise until you have the amount of volume you need.
This is a nice feature that PG added a couple of versions ago to address the issue. Unlike using the "Normalize" method mentioned, it has the advantage of being non-destructive and can be changed later on if need be. Either method can be useful, depending on the situation.

Edit > Change Velocities > Normalize is for "Midi" Tracks. Trim and Audio Effects > Gain are for Audio Tracks.

I just made a new post, "Real Band Stereo Track Problems". You may want to take a look, because it points out some problems with trying to adjust volumes on stereo tracks. Unless I'm doing something wrong, a fix is needed from tech support.
