Hi all, finally have a problem I can't seem to figure out on my own or with help from reading the forum, so this is my first post. I have either changed something without knowing or somethings changed on it's own but everything I try to merg into a stereo Wave or WMA file all come out mono. Earlier songs that I have merged have been stereo so this is a recent problem.
It's probably some simple thing that I'm missing or not aware of that's causing it but I'll be damned if I can put my finger on it, so any and all help and suggestions will be much appreciated.
Many thanks, Rusty

Hi Rusty.
At the bottom of the MIXER window, there's a check box for MONO. First thing is to make sure this hasn't got ticked by mistake at some time.
If it's not that, get back to us and we'll think again.

Hi Rog,
Thanks for the reply, yeah that was the first thing I checked and I've been through all the preference setups numerous times. I've checked everything I could think off that would cause this.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not the brightest bulb in the circut when it comes to computers, I consider myself to be one degree above "computer illiterate" so learning BiaB/Realband has been a very difficult, steep, up-hill, learning curve for me....but I've loved every minute of it!
This problem started back with version 2012 actually (curently using 2012.5) but didn't notice it right away, I didn't worry about it because it wasn't an issue at the time and figured it would go away with the 2012.5.up-grade....it didn't.. Well now it's an issue as I have a bunch of new tunes I want to use for a New Years gig and I'd like them in stereo...so here I am beating my head against wall again...the wife says I'm like the bloke that won't stop and ask for directions....so I've finally given in and stopped and asking.

I'll ask the obvious...do you have your tracks panned left and right, so they are in stereo? Do you hear stereo when you play the song in RealBand?

I have to check that too. When I save out to WAV I then load into Audition and it is always shows as a mono track and I have to save the WAV file back out as stereo.
Even if all the tracks were panned dead center they should still show as LR stereo, just dead evenly balanced. I get one mono track after selecting "save as stereo WAV" so that may be my problem too.

Hi John and thanks for jumping in,
Everythings fine when playing in Realband, it all plays back in stereo just as I've mixed it. I like to pan the guitars full left and right for effect on my backing tracks but when I try to merg it all down to a stereo file it all comes out mono...everything!
It's got to be something simple that I'm missing somewhere...it's driving me nuts! (Wife says that's a short trip for me...so much for support)
Anyway, I've tried it with ASIO and MME..still the same, gone through all the audio set-ups (many times)..still the same. I've researched just about any angle I could think of...nada...very frustrating.

Okay this isn't about the sound itself. It is about the merging and saving, correct? You hear fine inside of RB but when you save you get mono. When you play back the wav is it mono? If you load it into another WAV editor is it mono? That right there is what I get, Adobe Audition shows it as a mono track no matter what.

Hey Eddie thanks for chiming in, good to know I'm not alone here with this problem. It doesn't matter if I merge to stereo wave or WMA everything come out mono..crazy stuff for an old mind, it's tough with just a few brain cell still working.
By the way, I've read with much amusement all your post since joining in here...you and I have traveled very similar paths throught the years...damn good thing we don't live close to each other...don't know if the world could take that.

That's correct, everythings fine in RB it's when I merge to a stereo file is where the problem is..by the way I'm only working with BiaB and RB, no other DAW's..

I think I would try returning RealBand to factory default settings. Make sure you have closed RB. Reset RB to factory settings by renaming the REALBAND.INI file and RB.CFG to something like REALBAND.INI.OLD and RB.CFG.OLD. When you relaunch RB, you'll have to specify your audio and MIDI settings again. Renaming the files allows you to get back to where you were in case this isn't the solution. When RB does not find those two files, it asks you for your preference information and then re-creates those files.

I haven't researched this yet but let me say this.My setup has all the music panned hard left and just 1/4 note root position piano chords panned hard right to drive my vocal harmoniser.I just batched processed all 200 of my songs so I can load them into my MP3 player. They all processed as stereo with the hard pans still intact. You'd be amazed at the issues that are solved by returning to factory settings.I do it each session with a little tool I built. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.p...true#Post357193

Hi John,
I've done resetting to factory default a couple of times, I've even reloaded RB a few times..no difference...the glitch will eventually show it's ugly little head or what ever it is I'm doing wrong. I'll be ordering 2013 by the end of the week so we'll see if that might fix it when it shows up...stranger things have happened.
Anyway, if push comes to shove I'll just gig with those tunes in mono, it's not the end of the world, most people don't know the difference anyway. Thanks again for your input.

Hi John (Silvertones)
Thanks for the tip, but I have to say I'm really not very computer savy, I very seldom venture beyond "default" anything with a computer. I've played with BiaB/RB over the last four and a half years enough to make it do what I want it to with more than reasonable results. This "mono" thing is just a P.I.T.A. for now, we'll see if 2013 will clear it up when I gets here. Thanks for joining in.

Close RealBand Go to Windows Explorer (not internet explorer) Go to Realband folder (probably on C: drive unless you are running from the hard drive) Delete Realband.INI file.
Restart RB May solve problem; could be this file has an error Realband will recreate this file when you start RB.
I suspect this because you said the new version still does it, and RB will preserve this file from version to version .. along with RB.CFG (which you also may want to try deleting as RB will recreate this one too.
If this doesn't work, and you have another drive (like the shipping drive for 2012) try running RB from there and see if the problem fixes itself. If you do run it from external drive now, try running from C: (if available) and see if any different.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hi Bob (RHARV)
Thanks for joining in, I've located the file RB.CFG but the file Realband.INI seems to be AWOL...no where to be found...could it be listed under another name?
There's nothing listed with any .INI in all the RB files I have.
Thanks for the input it's much appreciated.

Let me ask this, since you mentioned 2013. Which version of RB are you running, and do you have the latest patch update?

It has to be in there or the program wouldn't run AND RB recreates it if it's not there. That's why I made my little tool. Now I don't have to hunt for those files. Just click the button in the task bar.

Hi John (jford)
I'm running 2012.5 and all the latest patchs are installed.
And John (silvertones) I agree it's got to be there somewhere as you said or it wouldn't run but it's not showing RB.INI. anywhere..nothing in the file has a .INI sufix. I see RB.tip, RB.tpb, RB.chw and RB.CFG that's about it.
I'll wait till 2013 gets here and see if that doesn't cure the problem, I'll let you know if it does. Much thanks for all the help guys.

2013 likely won't fix it if 2012.5 didn't, unless you get rid of those files. Run John's app, or google 'hidden system files'. If no INI files display that tells me they are hidden. Common option in Windows, and the fix method depends on the operating system. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/docum...s.mspx?mfr=true
