I have a singing software program that can use imported midi files

Here are specs:
Singing Coach will only import midi files with the following characteristics:
Standard Midi File format, type 0.
GM authoring.
Melody and lyrics must be on track 4.
Delta time must be in TPQ (not SMPTE).

How can i make sure a midi song i get follows this format? Or what would I have to do to make it follow this format?

Hi Kristen.

1) Load the file into PowerTracks.

2) Select a GM synth as the MIDI output - Coyote WT will suffice.

3) If it doesn't sound right, select the correct instruments for each track.

4) Use the TRACK - SWAP TRACKS command to get the melody onto track 4.

5) Go to SAVE AS and save as a midi type 0 file.

That should do it.

And in addition, Kristen, check which channels (versus tracks) it expects. Does it want the melody on track 4, or channel 4? While they can both be set to 4, track and channel are two different things.

I know track and channel are two different things. That is why I didn't understand when it said "Melody and lyrics must be on track 4". I will see if there is any available help online which explains this but I doubt it. Its an old very basic program.

What I did with some success:
I found a midi -kar file .

Then i merged the lyric track with the melody track.

Changed the midi channel to channel 4 (right click on track and change the midi channel to 4).
It still didn't work right in the other program...

THEN I found out that even though you change the midi channel as I had mentioned, IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE CHANNEL IN THE EVENT LIST! So it still was not channel 4 even though it looked like it was.

I went to the event list and line by line edited the midi channel to 4. It appears to be showing the correct track in the other program now. (the lyrics are still a little quirky sometimes but I can fix that stuff).

Is there any way i can change the midi channel in the event list quicker than doing it "line by line"?

Look at Edit > Rechannel All Tracks and Edit > Rechannel(used for one specific track).

Almost everything you'll want to do to MIDI will be in that Edit pulldown somewhere. It is full of good tools.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
