This is my first time in making a full recording with Real Band so excuse me if the answer to this is so simple that I shouldnt be allowed to play with sharp objects!! I'm already stuck on making the backing track! I made the BIAB file (ALL Real Tracks) no problem at all and brought it in to RB and it plays fine. But its short of a Synth so I highlighted Track14 (the first track available), right-clicked onto the menu and selected Super Track 1803 and it popped right in there and you can see it fine on the screenshot. In Midi driver setup I have set the track up as per screenshot but it is SILENT although I can see the volume bars working OK. I used Forte soft synth – would that be correct or wouldnt it matter for a SuperTrack? What bit have I missed please and how do I correct it? Regards Ian

Hi sixchannel.
Right click on the track and go to SPECIFIC VSTi SYNTH FOR MIDI TRACK and then select the Forte plugin.
Job done!

Hi ROG been there - done that - still Silent ! Is it anything to do with that "0\" sat in the corner of the track? Track tag now reads - "MIDI:Forte DXi Plug In (default, Ch 0" I'm on Track 14, the first 8 were taken up by some odd BB tracks with nothing in them, the next 5 are my Real Tracks imported from BiaB , so Tk 14 for the midi. Regards Ian

See if changing the MIDI channel to '1' makes any difference. Do you see anything in the Forte that indicates it is getting the signal?

Mmh. As a Test, I just loaded a known ALL-MIDI old BiaB file of mine into RB. All tracks come up fine and play fine!! I notice that each track has "Channel" identifier number that seems to have NO relationship to the track number it is on. On the RB I'm having trouble with, it says "Ch 0"? Is that a REAL channel It might not be the reason I cant hear it - or it might be.

The channel 0 means it is not being forced to a channel. Try changing the 0 to a 1, then open Forte and see if it indicates activity.
You can click the 'E' icon at top to see the Event List and check which channel it is actually on. This shows you the actual MIDI events.
Chances are it is on a MIDI channel that either doesn't have a sound (patch) assigned, or the notes are out of range for the patch it is assigned to. Click the little arrow at left side of track and Edit DXi, then open the Forte itself to check. Click 'play' with forte open and watch for activity on the assigned MIDI channel; make sure a sound is assigned to that channel.

Hi Sixchannel. Try this:
Right click the track and (you may have to scroll up) set the midi channel for that track to whatever channel your midi plug in is set to. Sorry but don't seem to be able to post pic.
Good luck.

On further testing I think I see a bug/issue
The synth patch change command happens on channel 8 and all the MIDI note data is on channel 1. So the MIDI data never gets sent to the correct patch.
Quick Fix: Right-click track name, go to MIDI Channel and change it to 8. RB bug?

OK - did that - see screenshot. Still SILENCE. HOWEVER - if I change to Coyote WT it DOES play, although as Piano. I can then go to "Program" and get some basic Synth sounds. But doing that cant be right - can it? Any help? Ian

Change Synth back to default please Then; Change MIDI CHANNEL to 8 It's four items down below your selection in your screen shot - Channel:0 (change to 8) Can't tell if that is an 8 or 0 in screen shot I don't think there should be any MSB or LSB entries, how'd those get there? Clear those out Bank LSB and MSB should be empty. Otherwise it is telling the synth to look for a patch that likely doesn't exist. Inside the Forte itself, do you see a patch assigned to Channel 8?

Rharv Here is the SEQ file. ((sorry its 150mb) See if does the same to you as it does to me!! (this is the file before I started to mess with it. I have "binned" the others so its back to a clean slate.) I'll delete the file later today. I did try the RealTracks version of this midi track (and its OK) but I need to resolve this issue for my future recordings etc. My whole work has so far been in the Audio domain and so this midi and its different modus operandi is a bit baffling. See my previous screen shot.
Do you have MIDI channel set to 8? Did you remove that LSB entry? That should be empty like MSB is. Your screen shot shows it set to 69.
MSB and LSB tell the synth to look for the patch in different 'banks'. Coyote likely doesn't have a patch in the bank it is being told to look in.
Those two things should fix it.

We crossed posts. Here is the new screenshot. Channel is 8. I took the LSB and MSB (whatever they are to "---". MSB was reading 69. As you can see no Channel 8 or any other one for that matter assigned to Forte. How does it get the message? Ian

Oh Boy! - I know I'm gonna regret this ! - WHERE did you change it please? My channel was "0" and I've changed it to "8" I removed the LSB from 69 to --- The MSB was already --- Nothing still shows in the Forte window other than in the screenshot above. What "button" do I use to put the Channel 8 command in that Forte window? Ian

Right click track and change Channel to 8
Hit rewind, then hit play .. patch should load into Forte. Patch loads at beginning of song.
If not, click the 'E' (or hit F2) to look at the Event List. At the very top should be a patch change on channel 8. Hopefully you see that. Make sure the patch change happens on Channel 8 (it did here for that realtrack, but may be different on your system) If it is ona different channel try setting the Track to that channel. A screen shot of the Event List would be most helpful.
You can also manually assign a patch to the Forte by right-clicking the box for a given channe and selecting a patch. The secret is to right click, both on the Track (to see Channel number assignment) and the Forte (to assign a patch if needed) so they match the one (for Program Change) in the Event List.

Well RHarv Last night I turned it all off in Disgust. Its 10 am here now and I've just re-booted, done just as you say (which I thought I was already doing but clearly not) and it all appears to be working as it should. Go figure that one out! Here are two screenshots. The Event List shows channel 8 and then reverts after a few lines to "1" - is that what you would expect to see? I DO get Sound and I assume that as its now in the Forte window that it is a Forte sound. Thanks for your patience. Ian

No, that is not what I expect (seeing the Track change from channel 8 to channel 1) I mentioned this earlier in the thread and have reported it to support team.
Since it does that, that is why the Track needs to be set to channel 8.
You could also select that whole track and use 'Edit-Rechannel' and rewrite all the data to cannel 8, but again it shouldn't be necessary. The track should generate on the same channel all the way through.
Thanks for sticking with it. Glad it worked out.

Hi six channel, I'm a RB user and an occasional forum visitor, which is why I'm putting in my twopence worth so long after the issue was first raised: I don't know anything about supertracks but I do from time to time play (or write in the piano roll window) MIDI stuff into RB and find the track is silent when I first try to play it. From memory, there's a signal showing on the relevant track in the tracks window but no sound. What works for me to kick it into gear is simply to duplicate my non-sounding track(first command in the "Track" menu in the top toolbar)onto the next available track, and it works! That is, both original and duplicate, together or seperately. I can then delete one or the other and the remaining one works fine. I'm aware this method sounds more like voodoo than soundly based technical information and I'm glad that you've received plenty of the latter in previous posts, and also that your problem may have had different causes than mine and require a different fix. Nevertheless it's a quick and painless thing to try and just might work for you and anyone else in a bind like this. Clinton.
