Is it possible to mark a number of bars then copy and paste the cut to a new seq file using save as?
Seems Copy/paste doesn't work!

Erase what you DON'T want, save it to "songtemp" or whatever, then import it where you want it in the other song.

or
Copy section to another blank track
Track - Save track to file
(you can erase the copied track now, it served its purpose)
Open new seq file
Audio - Import audio (the track you just saved to file)

Copy and paste inside new seq file anywhere you want using new track

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Hi!
This is a long multitrack seq file where I want to copy all the tracks from bar x through bar xx to a new seq file! Would like to avoid the tedious "erase all that you don't want" operation, if possible! :-)

First do a save as to create a copy of your project. Click on the RB Windows menu button, scroll down and hit Bars. In the Bars window you see your entire project laid out as a grid with little squares. Each square represents one bar and each horizontal line of squares is one track. Vertically is all the tracks. Put your mouse on whatever bar on the first track you want to either copy or delete and while holding the left click, swipe down and across to the last bar, that will highlight that section. Now you can either copy or delete that part using regular Windows commands like the delete key or Ctl C. Ctl V is the standard paste command. Either of those opens up a RB window where you confirm the bar numbers, tell it to close the gap or keep the gap, etc. Say you want bar 24 to be the beginning of your new project. Swipe bars 1-23 across and down all tracks, hit the delete key, tell it to close the gap and you're done. The rest of the song now starts on bar 1. Can't get any simpler than that.

It doesn't take much to realize you can completely rearrange your song inside that Bars window.

Tedious? Swipe what you want to lose with the mouse and hit delete.

Sounds like what I want, but can't make it work? Is it because I have a 2011 RB? When I copy the section I want to save my paste is greyed out :-)

Delete everything you don't want and with nothing selected and just what you want remaining, save it as a wav. Call it snippet, testsong, saveclip... whatever. Then import that wav where you want it into the other song. I know you can do it. As a learning tool for a medley I pasted chunks of 7 songs together recently just this way.

It works fine Strat and that Bars window has been there forever certainly since before Real Band was created from Power Tracks.

Now we have to get specific. Tell us exactly what you're doing starting with the type of song, the tempo, key sig, time sig, is it all midi, all Real Tracks or both? How many tracks, are any of them Biab tracks, how many total bars in the song, what bars are you highlighting, what does it look like inside the Bars window, all that stuff.

Slowly we turn, step by step...

When We're practicing I have mike'd up our instruments to my R16 multitrack recorder and end up with half an hour of continous recording. Having imported this to RB I need to divide this long take into separate songs and here it would be nice to be able to mark a song "from through" section, save it and give it a song name!

When I've been put in this situation, I highlite the section I want, (including multiple tracks) and then 'copy' it.
Then I go to the next blank track and paste it at the beginning of the track.
This gives me the 'song' on its own tracks.

Then I use 'Track-erase' to get rid of the original tracks and 'Save As' another name.
Then I open the original again and do it for the next section.
Easy and quick. Just have to be careful to never save it over the original, so I make a backup copy of it before ever starting into this routine.

You can copy/paste multiple tracks and erase multiple tracks by making sure they are selected. So you can select the region on one track, then click the track numbers while holding CTRL key down to select the other tracks .. or hold shift and click the bottom track to select all in between.
Knowing a few keyboard shortcuts help make quick work of this.

Rharv, you're close :-) I found that I need to erase tracks BEFORE I paste the song? If I paste to the next blank tracks it doesn't work ???

Wow, your right
When did this get broken? The method I decribed worked very recently (unless I was on a machine using an older drive to run the program) ..
Now a new black cmd type window flashes and it acts like it is writing one track, then nothing happens..

I'll try to let support know. Anyone else verify?

Highlite the last take on the audio track, "CUT" and paste on to a separate track. Repeat for each take until all have been split out. Now open a new folder and Audio > "Export to Wave" each track. Having done all this you can then edit each track to add effects etc.

I used this method for a period when I recorded a large number of Vinyl recordings to Digital.

Hi Rharv!

Maybe it was a thing for the wish list, I certainly miss an easy way to cut a song out of a practice night and then paste as a new seq file, but that is maybe just the way that I like work! Record the lot and select the best takes afterwards!

One thing else If I have copied part of this long file, erased what I don't want and saved what I want and given it a new name, close RB, open RB again and try to open my newly saved seq file, I get an error box that states "Invalid data". And won't open anymore ?????

Try File - Open Backup
and see what RB backed up for you last time you saved.
