Hi All
I recently upgraded to BB2013 but keep having this issue with the new sampletank plugin.
Access violation at address 06ABD796 in module 'SampleTamk2,x,dxi'. Read of address 0000000 at: 06ABD796.
BTW the address varies from time to time!
I've tried re-installing and used a few reputable registry fixing tools but prior to the error message there is also a warning that a registry error has been found:-
"Registry error. Please ensure this product has been installed properly."
I have used the default install path for Sample Tank. I have correctly authorised the Sample Tank Plugin (via IKMultiMedia AM 1.09) The Sample Tank Plugin works fine in standalone mode so it would seem to be related to how BB calls up the plugin when HiQ samples are requested or the Sample Tank DXI is required. I have also installed 365b just in case.
Anyone else been having this issue and solved it???
Thanks for any help Rob

I believe you should be using the VSTi not the DXi application, The BIAB HQ instruments defaulted to VSTi and when I tried to load the DXi for the GM side of ST, nothing but shut downs. So try VSTi - just look for the driver which should have been nstalled. Noel, did you have DXi working? http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=392701&an=0&page=0#Post392701

Hi There Good point... I tried this via 'select a VST plugin' but I get the same registry and installation error. This also after following the installation guide found in another thread. http://www.freewebs.com/jeftechstuff/BB-...nd-in-a-Box.pdfIt seems that although I'm installing in a my own 32 bit plugin area that it maybe installing 64 bit .dlls as I did get a message indicating this 'Not a valid VST plugin' when I try it with the likes of Amplitude as well. Sigh! - Normally have no problems at all with BB installs Checking the size of my 32bit IKMM plugins they are different from the 64 bit IK MM plugins so they seem different and therefore likely 32 bit but BB not liking the selection of a VSTi. When you install SampleTank, you are presented with the opportunity to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit DLL's. Unfortunately, IK-Multimedia decided to name both DLL's the same thing. So, if you don't change the 64-bit install location, by default (and don't ask me why they do this), it gets installed to the same folder as the 32-bit and because they are named the same, overwrites it.

Hi John
OK I retried the install for SampleTank that was supplied as part of the BB2013 download and it doesn't give me an option for 64/32 bit plugins. I also didn't note in your ST install guide. I did notice the size changed to 120KB for SampleTank2.x.dll but still getting the same failures.
A scan through my registry also shows nothing untoward.
I think I'm going to go for a complete 2012.5 & 2013 complete reinstall as I must have tried every imaginable scenario and what makes it more confusing is I have it all running completely without issues on a back up machine.
What do you think?
BR/ Rob

I'm not John, but that dll has date modified=10/08/2012, 5:09PM and there's an accompanying .ini file with the same date, right? In the VST/DX plugin interface, did you execute the "Add VSTi plugin" option, choosing that file specifically? I recently went through this, and it appeared that while the BB installation routine adds the DXi automatically, we gotta add the VSTi manually.
This thread might help.

Hi Ron No it seems I have the ST dll & ini dated 08/10/2010 16:09. I've de-installed all of the IKMM programes/plugins now and re-installing BB2012.5EP and then BB2013EP after having cleaned my registry. Hopefully this time I'll get a clean install too but will check that thread (thanks) It was my DXI that was giving me the registry and access violation error but also got similar when trying the VSTi. I'm on Win8x64 and normally install all music related programs/plugins/content to my D drive mainly to keep it all on a different drive to my OS. Will report on how I get on. BTW on my back up system you were right about the VSTi and I set that up with no issue. It's amazing that one works fine and the other doesn't but maybe I've done something different somewhere. I use the same registry cleaning software on both machines so I don't blame that. Thanks all for all the help so far

Dionin - I've had much the same problems - also on Windows 8 64 bit - and in the end I've just uninstalled Sampletank completely.
However, if you run BIAB as "Administrator" you probably won't get the Access Violation error (at least I didn't).
On the other hand, I'm now getting other errors in BIAB - and yes I'm talking to PGMusic Support about those - but I wasn't getting them before installing Sampletank. I'm getting the feeling that Sampletank and Windows 8 64 bit just don't play nicely together.

thanks for the heads up Paul.
I'll try out the running BIAB as admin option. This is something I hadn't tried before.

Hi Paul Well the running of BB2013 as admin gets rid of the registry and access violation errors I was getting so thanks for that so that my work can progress I'd fully re-installed but the issue was still there until I tried this. I'd be keen to know about the other BB2013 & W8 issues you are seeing just so I don't waste hours trying to debug issues that are already in hand. are they logged on a thread in here? once more thanks again
Regards Rob

Hi, Rob (Dionin) -
Probably not the problem, but you didn't happen to install BIAB in "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)", did you? Doing so causes weird problems running BIAB.
PGMusic suggests installing BIAB to C:\BB; however, I like to keep the root folder of C: uncluttered, so my preferred method is to install to the "C:\Apps" folder I created, which is where I put other applications that don't rely on the registry to run or default to the root of C:\.

Dionin:
I also had a lot of trouble trying to use the ST Dxi version, and as others have clearly confirmed above, the problem is solved by installing the VSTi version in your BB/RB programs, and using that instead of the Dxi.
The problem I had was finding the dang .dll file, but I finally found it here on my system: C: > Program Files (x86) > Steinberg > Vstplugins > SampleTank2.x.dll
Now, as has been suggested, this location may depend upon the installation method, and if it is not there, I guess I can't help you except to say that with perseverance, it does work, so don't give up.

Hi John
No I install 99.9% of my Music software on my D drive (not my system drive). BB is on the D drive. I ended up putting the IK MM programs on my C drive but plugins on my D drive. With BB ran as admin sample tank runs just fine but if I run it as normal then I get the errors again. I have no issues with it running as admin at the moment so I can get on with my projects.
So far no more issues and I've reinstalled Amplitube and T-Racks.

Hi Dionin. I'm also getting similar errors if I save a song to MIDI (or indeed to a WAV) - even if I run as Administrator. However, this only occurs if I have "Frozen" tracks in my song. So the workaround for that so far is to unfreeze any frozen tracks.
Good to hear that you're up and running now!
I have BIAB installed to c:\BB
I might try the VSTi version of Sampletank - since that seems to do the trick - and yes I was getting the registry error too if I didn't run BIAB as Administrator.
