I'm posting this just in case someone's interested and adventurous. VideoMeld is a product from the makers of Goldwave audio editor. I'm a big fan of Goldwave and find it amazing software for tidying up all sorts of audio. I tend to use it largely on vocals and particularly like the Noise Reduction Filter. I have a pretty primitive recording set-up that comes with plenty of ambient noise. Goldwave is brilliant at removing this noise from my recordings. Anyway ... for a limited time, the Goldwave people are letting users freely download VideoMeld (multitrack video software). It only works on Windows 7 or higher. From what I can ascertain, the software is still being tested but it's past the beta stage and they're now seeking input from the public. http://www.goldwave.com/vmindex.phpRegards, Noel

Hi Noel
Thanks for the Info. I have recently been looking for an audio editor, and have allready Audicity. I also recently DL a trial version of the updated Adobe Audition. I can see on Goldwave's website that it is targeted to video editing, but I understand from you that it has some good audio features as well.
I hear you have a "nice" hot summer down under.

Hi Jan, Goldwave is the audio editing software and VideoMeld is the video editing software. Goldwave is one of the most comprehensive audio editing software I've encountered. If you're curious about it, download the trial version and give it a test run. It's fully operational. As mentioned in my original post, the function that I most often use is the Noise Reduction Filter.  What I do is to record a snippet of an audio file that contains the background noise of my studio (computer hum). When in Goldwave, I then copy the a section of that file to the clipboard. By selecting the the "Use clipboard" option on the left (in the below image), Goldwave then analyses the audio and subtracts those frequencies from my recordings of vocals. It's amazing how much extra clarity doing this adds to my vocals.  Regards, Noel
