Personal observation: There are a lot of people now who feel like they have to put a dedicated microphone on every single drum in a kit, and two microphones on just about everything else when recording a live band. All those microphones usually exceed the number of inputs available on the portable digital recorder so folks start looking to sync several recorders together in order to have enough inputs to simultaneously have these instruments recorded to its own track. The problem is that synchronization such as MTC is not sample accurate. There is some slop as the slaves follow the master. Any combination of microphones that pick up the same source but span two or more recorders are going to have phasing issues. I've helped a lot of people synchronize Tascam Portastudios together and always caution them about spanning things like the drum kits over multiple recorders. Phasing is a problem that people new to recording don't consider when multi tracking and then struggle trying to figure out why their mix sounds horrible while the individual tracks sound good.

So how to mic 230 strings under 30 tons of tension?
Piano players are real MEN.
My little brother said horses used guitars to whack people on the head. True but strange.
But he was born in 57 so the fins on our car were more fun than my accordion.
Tangerine. Nice colour for a car!
30 tons and Wadda u get, 230 strings and a grand in a breath, I sold my sole To the fishmongers store.

John,
You may not remember but I've stated on here before that the piano is the grandest of all acoustic instruments. I love the sound and just how much music you can get out of one instrument.
The piano also makes more sense musically than any other instrument. The lowest note is on the left and the highest is on the right and all the other notes logically fall chromatically in between and the range is fantastic.
It's a lot less confusing than a guitar. It doesn't require callouses either. It's too bad my Mom couldn't afford to but me a piano 45 years ago. But she did save up $57 to buy me a guitar at the sporting goods store.
It was the best gift I've ever received.

My Moms younger sister lived with us going to a bible school where the idea was to put kids out of high school to get married. It worked she married a Doctor who went there too. Two years no rent. Dad scored a house at an auction one day at the land office and my aunt bought them a set of uppity French provincial furniture, solid cherry, including an upright, the only non cherry wood is the sounding board. It's beside me now. The overtones are not kind tomy hearing, so I like the keyboards better. I took piano from 64 when we got it till 70 when I left home. When mom and dad moved to an apt I got the piano, none of the other kids took music.
