I went to the IK website last night and downloaded SampleTank free, got it registered, authorized, got my serial number; needing a leg-up to get it working with Biab & RB I then looked a bit more carefully at forum topics concerning ST, and only then realised that it's part of the 2013 package.
My question, then, is can I get it to work with my 2011 Biab & RB versions and if so, where might I find a guide to get it up and running? (Presumably not jford's comprehensive tutorial on the Biab forum, which appears to deal with ST as part of the 2013 bundle.)
I haven't got a squeak out of SampleTank yet and I'm not sure which way to turn.
Clinton.

I had it working with the 2012 version, hopefully others, who used earlier versions, will soon pop in. But, just thinking off the top of my head, would it be all that different than the setup that jford recommends? It looks like DXi's were supported well back to versions of 2010 and maybe earlier.

SampleTank is just another VSTi, so it should work fine with BIAB and RB 2011. However, BIAB doesn't have per-track VSTi, so I generally wouldn't use ST there (you would have to set it as your default synth, but then would have to load individual instruments for each track in ST; much easier to use a GM synth as your default in BIAB). But in RB, it should work like a champ. There really is no difference between what PGMusic offers and the ST-FREE you got from the IK-Multimedia site, other than the several Hi-Q instruments PGMusic offers (in ST format) as part of the BIAB/RB 2013 package.

Just download the additional free sounds you get with the FREE version and you will have a number of instruments to play with in SampleTank.

Thanks MountainSide and jford for your responses - I've had ST working in RB and Biab (sort of: more to explore ST than as a productive tool so far) and I see what you mean about its awkwardness in Biab, though I suppose that down the track I could have a closer look at Noel96's tips & tricks post about OmniSynth and its use in making ST behave as a GM synth. Not sure I'll be wanting to though - Biab is fine as it is (using VSC) as a practice tool, which is my main use of the program.
Strangely, the bass and piano play an octave down in Biab with ST as the synth - has anybody else had this happen? This led me to Prefs - Channels where I could make appropriate adjustments (yet another aspect of Biab I previously hadn't a clue about) and then it worked fine. Not sure about this in RB yet but it'll be easy to fix if it does occur.
With regard to RB, I've been aware for a while now that I need a better understanding of both channels and controllers in order to work more effectively in RB (and with MIDI generally) - can anyone point me to discussions or articles that would be useful study material?
Many thanks,
Clinton.
P.S. ST:Real-sounding double bass! Wow!!

Clinton, the thing with the new 2013 Hi-Q Instruments is you don't have to go into the ST plugin window and select them. You right click the Biab instrument name and that opens the menu where you select the Hi-Q instrument. That's it. Not automatic like a GM synth but still pretty easy. It's when you want to use all the other ST sounds that you may have that you have to open up the ST plugin and select them manually.
