A friend and I purchased identical systems in order to eliminate issues. We are both using Realband 2012 in Windows 7. He send me a Realband .SEQ file on yousendit, I downloaded it to my desktop, then into Realband. The issue is that some of the tracks are out of sync. At first I thought it was only the live tracks, so I muted everything except the bass and drums, which were generated by BIAB, then moved to Realband. When I play it, the bass track starts before the Realdrums. Why would this happen and what is the easiest fix? Thank you in advance................

what interface do you each use, and what are the interface setings.
If you have different sample rates and such as that it can throw everything off.
With RTs and RDs i believe it is best to have everything set at 16 bit 44,100 sample rate. hopefully someone else with correct me if I am wrong.

Does the SEQ file contain a mixture of audio, midi and VSTi tracks? If so, is there a time difference between tracks of the same type?
When swapping files, it's usually best to render all the tracks to audio if possible.

ROG, Thank you! You hit the nail on the head, the track does contain a combination of midi, live audio tracks and real tracks. If I wanted the project to load on my Realband just as it was on the sender's,---should he render each track individually?

Hi Chuck.
Yes, that should solve your problem. Eddie and I have been swapping SEQ files by that method over ftp for a long time and without any problem.

How much difference is there. By'starts before' do you mean milliseconds or two measures?
It should be easy enough to fix between the settings on the two machines. One may have a smaller buffer (latency) or it may be a matter of inserting/cutting space on certain tracks.. but you could likely learn to line them up, and probably get a routine figured out, if these files go back and forth. Sometimes usiing MIDI tracks can reduce the time to get the job done compared to:
sender: convert to audio sender: upload (larger file because it's all audio) receiver: download on the other end (larger file because it's all audio) .. and then you are stuck with the MIDI renderings to audio (may be a good thing, may not). I like to have the MIDI data for later just in case.
If it's fixable by highliting the one track, then holding control to select all the tracks you want to change, then insert/cut the space needed .. that may be faster once the parameters are known. If the files are going back and forth a bunch of times, I've found this to be more efficient sometimes for both parties.
Oh, and make sure you are using the same synth for MIDI .. that alone can change things.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

ROG, Still not getting it, please tell me what we are doing wrong. My friend is rendering each track individually, a RealDrums track, 3 midi tracks and 3 audio files. He puts them in a yousendit folder. I download the tracks individually and put them in a folder. I then import them one-by-one into Realband. Nothing is in sync except the midi tracks with each other. The Realdrums seem to begin with the midi tracks, but get further apart as the track progresses. It's like the midi tracks are actually at a slightly faster tempo. And the audio tracks are someplace completely different. I know this is user error, how do you and Ed exchange .SEQ files? Thanks for your help!

still sounds like some one is at a different sample rate

Important to understand the difference between MIDI and audio in this instance
Each gets the sound started from a 'trigger' event. In MIDI each note is triggered to the time of the MIDI clock. Audio is a chunk of sound that gets triggered once and plays over a period of time
One audio trigger may last a whole song, or several measure, whereas each note in MIDI is triggered anew.
If a bitrate mismatch happens the audio gets worse over time. If two different clocks are used it compounds the issue.
First question; when one of you exports the tracks to audio, RB asks 'include silence at beginning?' Make sure to say yes, otherwise when the next guy imports it he has no idea where to actually import it time-wise (1-1-0 or 1-1-46) If all the MIDI is right, this is a clue that the audio does not actually start at 1-1-0 yet may be getting imported to that location.

What I suggest is that your friend renders each track to audio, but then sends you a copy of the SEQ file. You can then just open the file with all the tracks in place and at the right tempo. The mix will be preserved and provided you're both have access to the same plugins, the effects will be preserved as well.
As rharv says, if the wav files don't start at the very beginning of a bar you've got a problem, but this method solves it. It's the way we do it and we've never had any problems. Even a large SEQ file only takes about ten minutes to download and it's easier than loading the tracks individually.
