Just wondering if anyone on the forum is using pianoteq. If so, any impressions on the software would be appreciated. Presently using a yamaha s-90 and a kawai mp4. I'm pretty much happy with both boards. Piano sounds for the most part are just OK. Recently got a laptop and am using BIAB 2013 with all updates. I'm also using a GEM rpx piano module that I like very much. The pianoteq software apparently takes little space on the hard drive and an I-lok is not required. I know piano sounds are very subjective----I'm just after some input because I'm trying to find something that would cut back on midi gear (modules) using my laptop and keyboard. If Pianoteq sounds as good as the GEM module I think I'd be a happy camper. Also would pianoteq work well with BIAB as a plug-in. I'll probably download the trial version---just wanted to get some opinions from anyone using pianteq on this forum, as I'm a little green on my experience with soft synths. Thanks for any reply

Hi bluzkeez1,
I can give you some info about the way I use pianoteq, maybe it will be of help.
I recently upgraded from the trial version of pianoteq to the full version as it suited the way I tend to work. Personally I love it. It does works as a plugin in BIAB. As you have BIAB 2013, you have the ability to use multiple VSTi and could use pianoteq along with other soft synth plugins.
As I have BIAB 2011 and can only use one VSTI at a time, I usually use the ARIA player when I'm doing backing tracks so I can use Garritan strings etc.
Most of my compositions are for piano students so pianoteq is ideal in that situation. I just have my keyboard, laptop and pianoteq loaded up. I can "doodle" away and it remembers everything I play, then I can save it as a MIDI file and edit it if necessary (usually!) in my notation program, load it back in to pianoteq and render it as a WAV file. I can then take the WAV file, process it in my audio program and render as an MP3 if I need.
Most of the time though I load everything up and play my Sibelius scores straight into pianoteq and render the best take straight to WAV.
It's a good idea to download the trail version, see if you like it and if it will do what you want it to do. Some of the black notes are disabled in the trial version and you have to reload after 20 minutes, but you can still get a good idea if it's what you need.
I'm sorry, I know this sounds like an advertisement, but it really has simplified the way I work these days.
All the best

Thanks for the reply yjoh. Good to know it works well with BIAB. Are you using Pianoteq 4?

Yes, I'm using Pianoteq 4. The only way you'll know if it's right for what you want is to try the free trial version and test it out with BIAB 2013.
(The free historical add-on instruments are good as well, I especially like the Grimaldi harpsichord.)
All the best

Thanks for the tip ZeroZero. Are you using the Atlantis Module. Listened to a few UTube demos and they sounded pretty good. At any rate I'm going to try both Piantoteq and TruPianos to see which one fits best. Apparently I'm entitled to a Cakewalk discount on TruPianos. I'm going to be using on a widows 7 64 bit laptop (along with cakewalk and BIAB 2013 Everything Pak) I'm assuming I would download the 64 bit version of TruPianos although I'm not sure that version will work (vsti) with my Cakewalk Home Studio 7 XL. I believe my Cakewalk will not support 64 bit plugin. The same may be true with BIAB. Any suggestion on which version (32 or 64 Bit) to download? I would like to use stand alone for gigs and also as a vsti for the software listed above. Thanks for your reply
