I've wanted this program for so long- but I just can't seem to get it. My computer has a MS wavetable sound card. I'm told that's why there's a voice delay when I record the vocals (straight line from the mic to the computer.)Playback be is in sync, though. And that's why ASIO drivers won't work. I went to OFFICE DEPOT to look into getting another sound card and was told it would need to be compatible with wavetable- I thought the purpose of getting another card was to by-pass the original sound card.(?)
I have tried to 'save' songs that have sample tank plug-ins. However, when I play the songs again, I have to click all the sample tank instruments again. What aren't they 'saved'?
A lot more questions to follow.

I'm a songwriter and not computer savvy.
I need a BIAB for Dummies.
Thanks!

Hi gone coastal,

Welcome to the forums.

Please tell us all a little more about your set-up.
  • What processor is it?
  • What is the operating system?
  • Is it a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system?
  • Do you run BIAB from the USB drive or is it fully installed on your computer?
  • How much free diskspace do you have?
  • Have you defragmented your hard drives recently?

Once we get a feel for what you've got, it becomes easier to make suggestions.

All the best,
Noel

1. Don't get a new sound card. That isn't the issue
2 you don't need ASIO , try non ASIO which is called MME
3. For the sample tank instruments, you should select them by choosing Hi-Q instruments from the radio buttons menu eg right click on the word piano. They will save with the song.

If issues with ASIO, or sample tank persist, use other things in BIaB,,as those are about 5% of what BiaB can do, and it would make sense to focus on the features that are working for you. Press the Band button, load in some styles, and you should have things working.

If doing a lot of recording, use RealBand included with BiaB, it can do multi track recording.

“Should I Stick with BIAB?”

“I'm a songwriter...”

Stick with it. BIAB is the greatest songwriting tool I've ever found.

First off you need to do a little research and learn what some things are and how they work.

MS wave table is not the sound card, it is the built in synth that plays midi files in MS computers. Now the sound card you have most likely accesses that for this task. In BiaB you can setup to use sampletank instead, but you need to save that with each song file. If you have latency, or delay in recording it is usually because you have a sound card that is really not up to the task, and or you sound card settings are not right. You can get a built in card to record properly, but is is not easy, and can be very frustrating. The very heart and soul of any home studio is the sound card, or interface.

I strongly suggest the purchase of a good recording interface. I fought this at first, and once I got the proper equipment it was so much better.

Do some research on this page. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/audio-int...p;v=g&Ns=bS

In general, focusrite, person us, Roland, are good choices.

gone coastal... (cool nick, by the way)

where are you located? Maybe somebody on the forum lives close enough to arrange a meeting and show you in person how to get up and running.

You should definitely NOT give up on BIAB! Once you get your setup working, you'll be a happy camper

The learning curve can be huge. I worked last week with a life long musician with little computer skills and no prior BIAB experience. I was amazed a how confused he could get with his first time moving through the program. Patience, don't even think you can do it all at the very start.

Trying to immediately record is a hugh leap into the deep end. As you have seen the hardware alone will stop you in your tracks (pun intended), not to mention the software end of it.

Give it time.

Thanks, Peter.
I'm trying to use Real Band.
It will load the song from BIAB o.k.
(Click and drag doesn't work-I use 'import' from 'file')
But when I hit play-I get this message:
ACCESS VIOLATION AT ADDRESS 00734ACD IN MODULE 'REALBAND.EXE'
READ OF ADRESS 00000000 AT 00734ACD
-The song won't play.

I'd recommend switching to a MME driver (not ASIO). Then things should be OK.

Hi gone coastal,

Your computer sounds a good match for the software.

You mentioned an access problem with Realband. Have you installed the BIAB and RB in the "Program Files" folder? That's often the reason for such an access error. BIAB/RB is designed to run off the root directory in X:\bb and X:\Realband folders (where "X" is some drive). It doesn't always work too well in the Program Files directory.

Also, as Peter Gannon has already mentioned, change your driver to MME rather than ASIO. I pretty much always use MME with BIAB. You can access these settings via the top menu "Opt. | Audio Driver" and then the "Audio Settings" button.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. I use BIAB to write songs all the time. It's brilliant software. If you're interested in hearing my most recent song, it's at this link. Apart from the MIDI strings (which I created in BIAB), everything else you hear in this song are Realtracks from BIAB.

I had tried ASIO but removed it because it didn't seem to work.
Have been back to MME for a few days now.
Actually, I think I started receiving the error message after having done that. Thinking about removing the program and re-installing.

Hi. One other thing you can do is, when you installed BIAB/RealBand you also installed the Coyote Synth. It's far superior to the MS Wavetable and times up to sync pretty good.
