Been using BIAB for years. Now on BIAB 2013, build 366 with Roland SD50, and every morning when I start it up BIAB does not like my ASIO drivers on the SD50 - Access violation at address 0AC625A9 in module 'Rdaw1105.dll'. Read of address 00000108 at:0AC625A9. Yes, I start the SD50 before I start BIAB.
Tried starting RealBand - Same problem.
Have to set it to MME drivers to get it to run. Only way I seem to be able to get the ASIO drivers back is to reboot, often several times.
I also have VST (Coyote synth) on at present as I am using play / render to make audio tracks (as an aside, it is a pain having to turn this on when I am rendering all Realtracks / Realdrums!!!) Will try without that now and see if it makes any difference.
Forgot to say - winodws 7, home premium, control panel (device manager and sd50) say device is working fine.

I didn't use ASIO drivers for years, but I do for some things now. I used to get access violations (don't remember the addresses). What was causing mine was the popup windows that came when I rendered via the render window which is now in the audio menu. There are 2 windows that caused me trouble. They were behind the main biab screen window. Tech support suggested that I make the main screen window smaller so that I could close those windows after rendering and before I closed the Biab program. That solution worked. Don't know if this helps or not. Good luck!

Think I've found the root cause of this (and several other problems I have been having).
Problems
1.Stuttering, locking up , bad sounds, pops and crackles on realtracks
2.Access violation on ASIO driver
3.Play/render to audio track
4.Several other strange things like panning mix disappearing / getting reset
5.BIAB playing a song but can't be stopped / paused - only solution is stop via task manager
Solution
Don't use ASIO driver for SD-50 - I'm using MME and all my problems seem to have gone away.
Is this is a BIAB problem or a Roland problem?? Any input gratefully received.

I've found it easier to use Real Band if I want to use different synths in the same song. Ymmv. Of course, it's always easy in Sonar.
I've had some problems with volume level settings when mixing also. Part could be to regenerating when Play is hit and/or the tracks have not been frozen. Sometimes I've gone to the Events List to get the sound where I want it. I mostly use Sonar now for volume adjustments. YMMV

It depends. You didn't say if you're running 64 bit or not. I have the Sonic Cell with Win 7 64 bit. Roland has a specific 64 bit driver for the SC and it works well for me. Check their website for the proper driver for your SD50 and your OS. If that still doesn't work then Google and download ASIO4ALL. Lots of folks here use it and it works fine although most DAW pros will tell you you're better off with the native ASIO driver supplied with your hardware.
As an aside the only reason you need ASIO is for live playing or recording with a midi controller like a keyboard with other prerecorded tracks from within a DAW, in this case Biab or RB. ASIO is needed to reduce the delay you would hear or see on the screen like the notes on the piano display. If you're not doing that then you don't need ASIO anyway, stick with MME. ASIO stresses a computer even a high spec one depending on how many tracks you're processing along with effects plugins and the like. It can be a very tricky subject to discuss.

Thanks. Both laptop and main PC are Win 7 64-bit. I've just run Geekbench on both of them for interest to see how "powerful" they are.
Main PC - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @2.81Ghz, 8G RAM, 1.5TB hard drive - Geekbench 7660
Laptop - INtel Core i5-3210M @2.50Ghz, 8G RAM, 1TB hard drive - Geekbench 2856
When I play live I use the laptop + SD50 for backing tracks and Stage Piano plus another synth for my stuff and that seems to work fine, so I am going to forget ASIO and stick to MME!!!
I have also removed Sampletank as I never use it, may remove Coyote (only used for render and I've stopped using that now) and on the laptop I turn off background stuff like wireless, dropbox etc. and that seems to make it more stable.
I'll check my driver is up-to-date - should be, I only bought the SD50 recently.

What Version of Sonar are you using.. Which Version least expensive would I need to get the job done??

I'm using home studio X1. When I bought it, I also got X2 for free, but I've never used X2 because they were till getting the bugs out the last time I checked. I will say that it's quite complicated for a rookie like me. There's a book out for X1 which has helped me some. I've barely scratch the surface of it's capabilities. I'm not in a position to recommend that anyone go out and buy it though. If you do your diligent research, you will have an easier time in coming to the place as to if you want to buy it or not. I've tried Reaper and Mixcraft also. They are not so easy either. You might want to give Real Band a try since you probably already have it. It has many features that other daw's do, but I was just having difficulty finding and learning them. We are all different when it comes to learning abilities and experience with this sound stuff.

Hi Stan. I agree with everything in your post (except I know nothing about Mixcraft). Just FYI, SONAR has patched X2. The newest version, X2a, is more stable that X1 in my opinion. If you like using SONAR, I believe you may safely upgrade.
You may be referring to the Scott Garrigus books, which are always excellent. I agree with you, though, that SONAR is not for the faint of heart. This is pro software that you must use regularly to master (not that I would claim to have mastered it).

None it them are easy Stan including Real Band. There are two prerequsites for doing digital audio work:
1. Be an expert in your Operating System, Windows or Mac. You become a complete nerd about it. The stuff we deal with is not found on the Microsoft website for example, we all just have to "pick it up" from trial and error and reading. Lots of reading.
2. Be an expert in digital audio terminology, just like how they talk in professional recording studios. If you've spent the last 10 years in a studio, that's a good start. Short of that, it's reading, lots of reading.
See a pattern here? I've been fighting this for years. On the one hand it's fun, it's our hobby but man o man does it get confusing sometimes. All the companies try to do the best they can but there's just no way to make it easy or simple to understand without you passing those two prerequisites first.
When you have a question for example about why are your vocals muddy, there's no way to answer that without talking like a recording engineer. Mics, input pre's, a vocal booth, compressors, EQ all of it. That's just the concept, then there's how does the software actually do it and if that's all Greek to you then what can you do?
