OP ZeroZero Expert Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 1,869 Bynar	I was recently reading a book by a famous conductor and composer. He stated there there are only 'a dozen of so chord progressions that are in popular use, in both classical and popular music. He gave one as being the circle of fifths, which was thrashed widely in the Baroque era. Another one is the I IV V, I guess (inc the blues here). I suppose the II V I comes in here or maybe we should call that the 1 VI II V, I Then there are of course minor progressions, more difficult to categorise in my view. that makes four categories for me. Its something to do with Eddie Cantor and I never heard anybody else call it that. On these boards these changes are called "Rhythm Changes." (The complete "Rhythm Changes includes a B section) PS: I just Googled 'Cantor' and found a song called "Makin Whoopie" by Eddie Cantor that uses the basic I-vi-ii-V that Mick mentioned.
