Hi,

I just rendered 6 BIAB tracks (drums, bass, guitars etc. for one song) for editing/further work in Sonar.

In BIAB the tempo is set for 124. In Sonar the actual tempo is ~124.015. This isn't a huge difference, but it makes synching the two problematic. After 50 measures the song gets off by ~ a 1/16 note. That's huge if you're quantizing. I have one tempo change and a few holds built into my BIAB file. The tempo change isn't the problem unless it's somehow throwing the whole BIAB file off track? But I wonder if the holds mess with the tempo?

I've worked around the problem, so I guess I'm just basically complaining.

I've collaborated across DAWs and files from ProTools and GarageBand synced perfectly in Sonar. So I'm pretty sure this is a BIAB issue.

Ian

Ian, likely a topic which is worthy of discussion, but not here in the wish list! Can you over it over into the discussion forum?

Ian,

I always create songs in BIAB. Whilst in BIAB, I also fully notate the melody. Once I've done that, I then render the tracks and use then in Reaper. Prior to Reaper, I used to use Sonar Home Studio. I have never come across the problem you mention. Timing has always been 100% compatible between BIAB and my external programs.

You mention that you had one bar that had a time change. I suspect that this is what has caused the discrepancy. Did you set the time change for that bar in Sonar? Also, have you tried transferring a song that doesn't have time changes and plays at a consistent tempo throughout? This would provide a valuable comparison.

Regards,
Noel

jazzmandan - Thanks - I'll post over there if I have the same problem w/ my next tune.

Noel - Thanks for the info that BIAB doesn't generally have this problem. On one amateur tutorial on youtube the guy says to tap the tempo button at least 4 times. He doesn't explain why and I thought it was a strange thing to say. I wonder if this is because he's had problems w/ the tempo?

The other possibility is that I'm working with a file that caused BIAB to crash twice. I'm wondering if my file got corrupted? But I'm done w/ the BIAB portion of my 1st tune. I worked around the timing issue. I'll repost in the discussion forum as requested if I have problems w/ my next tune.

Thanks guys!

The =sign next to the tempo numeric window is used to set time for a song if you do not know what the tempo should be. You can tap the tempo button to the beats of the song, 4 times if it is 4/4 time, 3 for 3/4 time and biab will automatically set the tempo according to what you tap. Hope this helps.

I'm sure that's what the video was referring to. Thanks.
