Lets just say I'm really anal about installed apps of any kind, specifically, static data that doesn't change, taking up valuable space on my limited 110Gig SSD drive. Considering BIAB, with all of the STY, and other types of files, I've GOT to think that there's some kind of alternate folder to store them off from the C:\ drive.
So, when I install BIAB, I see the 3 install paths. I know the BB install HAS to be on C:\, but if I take any of the folders IN that folder, and move them to another partition, is there anywhere I can create a path to that new locale?
Any alternatives would be welcome.
Thanks, KC

My experience is that the entire contents of the BIAB 'main' folder must all be together, with two exceptions: RealDrums and RealTracks. Those two may even be on another drive (which is the way I have it). There will still be RealDrum and RealTrack folders in the main BIAB folder, just with a few tiny files in each that direct the program to find the actual working files in another location that you specify in the Options, Preferences, RealTracks and RealDrums dialog boxes.
ST2 and XT2 files and a few others are fairly large, but pale in comparison to the size of the RealTrack files. Placing just the RealTracks, and to a lesser extent RealDrums, in another location will drastically reduce the size of the BIAB folder.
BIAB does not have to be installed in the root of the C drive. However, the one place you must not put BIAB is in the /Program Files folder (either one of them, if you have a 64-bit OS). Messes up the rights and permissions in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Thanks Matt...MUCH!
So, if I understand you correctly, the 2 paths other than BB can be on other drives? I'm not so much concerned with whether it's in the root dir, since if it's got to be on C: anyway, I'll just leave it as is?
Thanks Again, KC

I can confirm what Matt said since I DO install and keep 100% of BIAB on my second HDD (aka D:\) In a folder called D:\music\BB
This is where I try and keep 100% of all DAW and music gen/production related apps: all of BIAB as well as all other PG apps (Powertracks, all the "master" classes, Oscar Peterson, all the Pianist and Guitarist series, Chord dictionaries, Metronome Pro, etc.), all Cakewalk stuff (Pro Audio 9 and all Sonar versions through X2 Producer), all NI (Kontakt, guitar Rig, etc.) all IK stuff (Sampletank, Sampletron, Amplitube, etc. ), Mixcraft, Cubase "lite" (for Motif use) , Jammer Pro, 99% of the plethora of plugins, VSTi's and VSTs, Roland, Alesis, Yamaha, Korg synth apps and editors/librarians, and scores of MIDI apps and utilities, etc.
Or more simply - NONE of BIAB including the BB folder needs be on C drive

Sounds good, Larry. Sensible.
Note that even if you install to a different drive, a few things will still be written to drive C (assuming that is your boot drive) like the PG fonts.

Yea, I know but I try!!!
I like my boot drive lean and mean, even though it's 2TB's.
I'd LOVE to go solid state but I have so many apps (besides music related I have a lot of specialized math, stats, graphical, numerical, and other analysis and programming/compiler packages, company proprietary SW, multiple peripherals - scanners, printers, and "other" things). And yes, my bad, I also play games (e.g., Steam account) and a lot of thes apps INSISTS on installing all, if not most all, of themselves on the C:\ drive.
My C drive is just over 400GB's and that's with a LOT of "hacking" on my part to get, and keep, stuff OFF of the C drive - so until prices come down a LOT on SDDs I'll be using large HDD's.
IMHO - the load on the C drive has worsened with EACH MS OS release.
Going from Win 3.1 - where configs and ini's were in the owning applications directory NO MATTER where you had them D:\, E:\, … so you could spread the load as it were. Then Win 95 and beyond added to the "let's try and keep track of everything in one place with "registries" (that grow and become bloated).. The real "let's pull the plug on this puppies respiratory" came with Win Vista and beyond insisting that apps install in the C:\ Program Files (x86) and/or C:\Programs Files - actually bloats the hell out of the poor little 'ol C drive - even if work files are keep on other drives.
Yes, I know there are suppose to be "pluses" to this approach - but just going from XP 32 to Win 7 64 has caused me MORE MX, not less, (I will be skipping Win 8 altogether - just like I skipped Vista and ME).
