Hi, I'm new here.
I need to input the following chords. Is this possible? How?

Now the Ab9 chord is on beat 4 with 1/16 push
But how to get the G7b5 on the second eighth of beat 4 when it is followed by the C-chord on beat 1 of the following bar?

Hi zonno,

Technically, it can be done. How it will sound when the song is generated, though, is another thing altogether; it may or may not work.

How to do this is to use a variation of a principle that Bruce B and Tonnie recently made me aware of. (Here's a link to Bruce's post for reference.)

Using Bruce/Tonnie's principle, two bars are made to do the work of a single bar. Here's one approach ...

Using "Bar Settings", set the first bar to a time signature of 3/4 and leave the tempo as is. Now set the second bar to 2/4. Because the second bar needs to play in the time of a quarter note, it's tempo needs to be doubled (increased by 100%). Doing this, two bars can be used to accomplish what one bar normally does.

On chord 3 of the 3/4 bar, use a push to get the Ab9 chord. The 2/4 bar will now have two chord positions. On the second beat in the 2/4 bar put the G7(b5). Since this second bar is played at double the speed, the second beat will play in the speed of an 1/8th note.

Theoretically this will do the job. As I said, though, I have no idea how it will sound. I suspect that that will depend on the style. I also suspect that it will work better with midi styles than Realtrack styles.

Hope this helps,
Noel

P.S. After the 2/4 bar, you'll need to return the song to its original tempo. To do this, use the "Bar Settings" again and set the tempo and set the time signature back to 4/4.

Thanks, I will try this.
If this does not sound good, I guess the only other option is to double the tempo and use two bars for every bar.

I invented EXPANDED styles to allow you to do exactly what you are trying to do.

You can put a chord on any beat and in addition have a different chord on the eighth note right before that beat. You can also put 8 different chords in a 4/4 treasure (bar) with an EXPANDED style.

The EXPANDED styles by making one BiaB cell into a half measure instead of a full measure.

The styles are written so that if you use each BiaB cell as a half measure and double the tempo, it sounds right.

To check out the EXPANDED styles, go to http://www.nortonmusic.com/styledemo.html and give them a listen.

Zonno,

When you've had a chance to experiment a bit, I'd be interested to know how it went.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks for your interest.
For this particular purpose I chose to double the tempo and use two measures for every written measure.

I play the guitar in a big band. I have a 7 page score of "A Few Good Men" by Gordon Goodwin and I want to practice the chords and solos with BIAB. This song has a lot of chords with a lot of shots on sixteenth notes.

I tried different options, but for now it seems that if I use a double time style as CUTXFUNK.STY I come close to my goal of being able to practice this particualr song.

The first 149 measures of this arrangement I put into BIAB. I have not finished it yet.

This has been a major request of users for years (decades, actually) (including from myself). It should be possible to do in the program without such work-arounds.

I would suggest that people continue to request this in the Wish List forum. Hopefully at some point PG Music will get the message that this is an important priority of users, perhaps even more important than adding hundreds of new Real Tracks.
