Is there any software that will allow you to...
- play a tune on a CD (or audio file like mp3 or wav)
- and have the computer convert (some or part of it) to notation
In particular I'm looking for the rhythm to be converted to... say... drum or percussion notation... in order to capture some tricky breaks.
But a good audio to notation tool would come in handy for a number of things.

BTW - if you have a monophonic track, then PTPA has a audio to midi converter built in.

Hmmm... monophonic track... does this mean I should first mix the left and right stereo channels into a single track... a wav or mp3 mono file... and then let PTPA convert that?
Can I just have PTPA look at either the left channel or right channel audio?
AND... any tools for converting the midi to standard musical notation?
Thanks for the help.
PS Melodyne is very impressive but too expensive... and I'm not sure you end up with standard musical notation... just audio envelopes on a time line.

Monophonic in this case means a melody line with no harmony involved.
PowerTracks Pro Audio already has in it MIDI to basic notation conversion to use after you convert the audio to midi.
Melodyne will convert polyphonic audio into MIDI manipulateable data.

Seen a product called 'IntelliScore Ensemble' which converts analog to midi ... also has a notation software I think. Haven't got it, haven't tried it ... but its seems to be the sort of product you may be looking for. Cheers BJ
