I tried to run RB today for the first time -- and I got this: Ticket Initialization failed. Cannot copy to shared ticket location What does this mean and how do I fix it? Home folders are d:\bb\ and d:\realband\

Is there is a Ticket folder in Users\Public ? Ah yes! I am running BIAB in the "Run As Administrator" mode -- but not RB. When I run in admin mode I can activate RB. THANKS!

So the Account is an Administrator ? and have you tried the User Account Control settings ?

If my memory severs me correctly, in the RB Folder there is a folder "TicketsActivated" - the last file contains your personal number - Copy. If you now, in RB, select "Help" and click on "Activate RealBand" you can Paste the number to activate the program. If no luck, Email Support.

It's all working just fine. When I execute RB in the "Run As Administrator" mode, I can write where I need to write to. I could mess with the User Account Controls, but this is OK for me as is.

What version of Windows are you running? If I'm understanding you correctly, your account is not an administrator, but if you run as administrator it doesn't copy the tickets, right?

The is a vista machine (but the same thing happens in windows 7 and 8). My account is the "Administrator", but because of the UAC thing, I don't always run with admin privileges until I specifically tell it to via the "Run As Administrator". When I run with the "Run As Administrator" flag, everything is copied correctly.
If my account was not an admin account, when I told the pc to "run as administrator", it would ask me for a user name and password for someone who is an admin. Does that make more sense?

Programs do not usually run in Admin mode by default on operating systems with UAC, so your RealBand might not be able to write the activation information into the ticket file. Manually running the program as an Administrator will definitely fix this, as well as a number of other issues that can be caused by the program being unable to write to specific files.
It is recommended that you set both RealBand and Band-in-a-Box to always run as Administrator via right-clicking on the program icons and selecting Properties | Compatability | Run this program as an administrator.
