I need to know how to make a midi file definitely stop playing. My group sings along with midi files played on a Yamaha Tyros 2. The Yamaha onboard sequencer has a playback feature that allows you to select the next song while the present one is playing. We like to use the “Next” feature in order to go to the next song with a minimum of delay. Most of our SMFs stop at the end of the song as expected. But, I have a few that go on and on.
I have to manually stop them and then go on to play the next song. I use PowerTracks Pro Audio Ver.2013 to prepare and edit my SMFs. When I have a problem as described above I can use the “delete measures” in PTPA to remove any extra measures. This usually works and the file stops
playing. But sometimes nothing I can think of will stop the file from going on (I can see the LED flashing until I press “Stop”). Is there a command I can embed in the SMF to tell the keyboard's sequencer that the end has been reached?

Try 'Save As' (and changing the name) after making your changes. This is the first in a long list of possibilities.
There are Sysex entries that may work, etc. but sometimes simply using 'Save As' creates a new header that just works.
The clue that deleting measures often works make me think this may be the simple solution for the rest.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

It may well be that the introduction of Continuous Controllers at the end of the Midi Track(s)could help.
CC 121. Reset all controls - Data zero.
cc 123. All Notes Off - Data zero.
There is likely to be a System Exclusive Stop Message available somewhere appropriate to your Synth. See the Manual.
Also try the Sysex to re-initialize the synth at the end of the sequence. Again this should be in the Manual.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them all but no solution yet. I'll just have to be careful to
hit the stop button on my Tyros before starting the next song.

I never thought to use the delete bars function; I did it old school: went to where I wanted it to stop, set the from now point, went to the bar limit, set the to now point, selected all tracks, did a cut with the close hole option. If that didn't work, I started examining each track in note/staff view where the song should end to see if I had anything like a series of tied whole notes. If I did find these I would use the edit-note mode to check/edit their duration.
