Hello fellow musicians,
I came across a problem in BIAB 2007 - when I place a chord and press "Preview" in Chord Settings, everything sounds ok. But when I place the next chord, the first one changes (just slightly, but I don't want it).
How do I prevent this rather annoying thing?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you in advance. I assume you are referring to the fact that the arrangements over a chord change every time you regenerate (play). This is actually a feature. But many wanted to be able to "freeze" an arrangement so it would not change. So years ago this was added. But v2007 is an old version. Only thing short of upgrading is to move the track out of BIAB into a DAW (or RealBand which I assume was available right around 2007?) when you hear something you like.

Thanks for your answer, but I don't think you understood me. The arrangement does not change every time I play, it actually stays exactly the same. That's not the problem. Once more, the problem is that the chord played by the piano changes after I put another chord after it. Please take a look at the screenshot: Is there any way to prevent this?

I suspect it's because BIAB is looking to make an arrangement. It's not a static program where once you enter something it stays that way. BIAB is always looking ahead at what's coming next and creates the arrangement based on that. It's one of the reasons you can't use BIAB like an arranger keyboard.

I don't remember when the feature came along, but you can change the way BIAB handles chord embellishments in the settings - jazz them down was the term used if I recall correctly. In the newer versions you can choose a simple arrangement that also affects the chords. Might be worth looking for in your older version.

It is an old version of BIAB but is it new to you? Cuz, that's the way BIAB works.

So basically what you all are saying is that this program is not capable of playing what I entered into it. Disappointing, I must say. Ah well, I guess I'll have to look for an alternative.
Thanks for your time.

Glad to help clarify. You just discovered one thing that BIAB does not do, but lots of other products will play exactly what you enter. So now you may want to take a little time to find out what BIAB does do. Because, what it does is what nothing else comes close to.

Frankly, I think this is just poor programming. I mean, if it can't perform the most basic function of playing a chord which I entered, what good is it, even with all its bells and whistles? If I had payed for the software, I would have asked for my money back.

So you are complaining about a piece of software that you didn't pay for and that works the way it was designed but not the way you think it should is bad programming? And a seven year old version, at that. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume that someone let you use their copy...

Matt, you've got me wondering.
I'll admit I don't know what voice leading is but I'll take a guess.
Is it when one chord is used as a stepping stone to another chord? Another way of putting it one chord "announces" the impeding arrival of another chord. If I use the chords of E, A & B for example I might add an E7 at bar 3 to smooth the progression change to A at bar 4.

Hi Jim. Oversimplified, it means music normally sounds smoother moving the fewest notes the fewest steps to go from one chord to another. It's also why the OP will not get what he wants.
As JFord mentioned, BIAB uses intelligence to transition smoothly from one chord to the next. What BIAB chooses to play will therefore be different if the following chord is different. And this is a good thing.
You might be able to do what the OP wants by using loops. Although BIAB supports loops and also does have much recent development in "simpler" RealTracks, neither will help the OP as that person is using version 2007.

What BIAB chooses to play will therefore be different if the following chord is different. And this is a good thing. Well it would be a good thing if it actually sounded good. But in this case it's just horrible. If that was a piano player in a real band, he'd be out on his behind a long time ago. So you are complaining about a piece of software that you didn't pay for and that works the way it was designed but not the way you think it should is bad programming? And a seven year old version, at that. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume that someone let you use their copy... Well the way it was designed is obvouisly faulty. And if it had worked properly, I might have considered getting the newest version. And the fact that I borrowed it doesn't prevent me from stating the facts...

Hi wsurfer0, As I read through this thread, it sounds like you are trying to get BIAB to be something that it is not. Essentially, all one needs to do with BIAB is to enter a chord progression in Chord Sheet view and then simply hit the Play/Generate button. BIAB looks after everything after that. There are some great videos at the below link that will give you a little more insight into this amazing piece of software. http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htmAlso, if you click on the the link in my "Signature", you'll be able to hear some songs I've put together using BIAB. Kind regards, Noel
