Windows 7, 6gb memory, lots of disk space, Alesis QX49 keyboard, e-mu xmidi1x1 Tab input and output driver. BIAB 2014
I have a decent pc laptop, a Alesis QX49 keyboard and I cannot get any sound out of my pc when using the 'Hi-Q/SampleTank' sounds. Are these two things equivalent? Hi-Q = SampleTank? My initial problem is a very bad case of latency when I use the keyboard. I will hit a key and then I hear the sound later. Too late. I know that the keyboard is good because I have played it with absolutely no latency when using the sounds from my Alesis Quadrasynth.
I have been in the 'Midi/Audio drivers' dialog a thousand times and I can not get anything working except the GS WaveTable Synth which I am sure are not the best sounds I can get and are unusable because of the latency on the keyboard.
What am I missing? I have studied the help screens and am more confused then I was to begin with. I am thinking about forgetting the entire PC/BIAB path and getting GarageBand to use with an IPAD.
Any help would be more than a little appreciated.

As a start, do you have any VST/DXI synths installed? This includes Sampletank, Coyote Forte, etc. If so, there is a check box in the Midi setup to 'Use VST/DXi Synth'.
To my knowledge, the Hi-Q instruments are for Sampletank.

Yes on both. I have SampleTank installed and the check box checked.
Just no sound out of my pc.

Is Sampletank properly authorized via the IK-Multimedia site?

Do you have another synth you can try other than SampleTank? BIAB included CoyoteWT. Try loading that and see if you get sound. If so, we can go into the SampleTank stuff further.
As far as latency, you will have a problem using any softsynth. Many people use a different Midi driver - ASIO. It seems to do much better with latency issues. Do a web search for ASIO4ALL. Lots of posts here about using ASIO.
