I've been playing around David Bailey's Fake Disk from Norton Music and I decided I needed basically the same thing for the Just Jazz book I have. So, I got to the second song, Ain't Misbehavin', and I'm using some of the J_Basie styles. Since I'm going this for my keyboard, I want to go ahead and put in my own patches. Not a problem, I know how to do that. Here's the problem. Chorus 2, I want to use the J!~Basin.sty, and I want to use a trumpet ensemble or a solo trumpet for the strings part, which is now a brass section. One octave too low. Is there any way that I'm not aware of that will allow me to transpose a BIAB part up an octave for a number of bars, in this case a part marker, and then transpose it back down? I don't want to create a .mid file and do it in a sequencer, I want it to stay native in BIAB. This way, if I take the patches out and put in standard GM or GM2 patches, it can be shared with anyone. Gary

I don’t use BiaB for this kind of work but I think this will work. Unfold your song into one long chorus then in the Piano Roll View highlight that section and raise it one octave. That should raise that section one octave while leaving the others in the original octave.
Good luck.

Good luck. Mario, I appreciate the input, however, I didn't think it was going to work, and it didn't. Now, let me clarify that. YES, I can go in and edit the bars I need and move them up an octave. But, when you go to regenerate the song, they go back to their old position, which is what I expected. They don't stay there. You need to be able to tell BIAB to take this range of bars, in this chorus, and raise them an octave when you generate the song. Now, something else I noticed. When you have a song with multiple styles in it, which this song does, there is a problem with the style changes.. I have three choruses, and I'm using three different styles, albeit all closely related. The first style, or the 'song style', isn't selected anywhere but the Style Picker. I have a four bar intro. At bar five, because there is nothing in the Bar Setting for that bar that tells it to KEEP the same style choice, it automatically selects the style for bar 5, Chorus 2! It shouldn't do that. Furthermore, if you unfold the song, it loses all the changes as far as style and patch changes for the second and third choruses. Grrrrr. Gary

Yes Gary if you regenerate you will lose your edits. You need to freeze the string part if you do not want it to change then when if you regenerate every but the string part will regenerate.
I believe that if you want to regenerate only part of a track, say the string track for example, then you have to do it in RealBand or save multiple versions of the song and cut and paste in any other DAW.
I hope this helps.

Dan, Thanks! You did show me one thing, Bar Five, All Choruses was set to Basie2, which I didn't want, so that clears up the switch from the Song Style to the that one style.
Mario, I truly appreciate the input, but what I want to be able to do is to leave the .sgu file in it's native format. At some point, I'd like to be able to share it with other users, and have them be able to just pick up the actual book, turn to that page, select the song (with standard GM and GM2 patches) and play, and not have them worrying about whether a track is frozen or not. I'd like it to regenerate each time, just like the rest of the song.
Thanks guys!
Gary

There are some Opt|Preferences|Midi Options you can choose to allow or disallow patch changes.
You may try playing with options on that screen.

I msy be missing something, but have you tried Alt > L to edit melody , then e to edie, then t to transpose
You can select the whole song or just a number of bars. You want to transpose up 12 semitones.
ALT-L E T should do it

ALT-L E T should do it Dave, I haven't tried that, but you're talking about the Melody. On the other hand, I'm talking about the software generated parts, in this specific instance, the string part. Gary

Okay, just asked Alyssa in Live Help. The answer to my question is NO, it can't be done.
I CAN transpose the entire track up or down an octave, but not a select number of bars. I guess that's what I'm going to have to do.
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.
Gary

Can you move the track to the soloist? You can then mute the bars on the string section and play the solist bars. You can change the solist part in a similar manner to the melody track.
It won't regenerate but if you are happy with the arrangement, it should work fine.

is it possible to restrict a style to a specific octave be editing it
if so then you could save the edited style under a new name and use it where you wanted it

Alyssa (tech support) told me that I could move things up an octave in the notation view, but it would have been for the whole song, and I'm not sure it would have been permanent anyway. But, creating a new style, and then using just that style for the part marker I want should do what I'm looking for, at least for me. Thanks for the suggestion! Gary

Gary -
The only workaround I can think of is to generate the parts and then take the string track you want to change octave and instrument, and copy it to either the melody or soloist track. This, of course, means the file will be saved as an .MGU, not .SGU.
Then, edit the melody (or soloist track, whichever one you selected) and delete all the notes for the choruses that should be played by (and regenerated by) the instrument defined in the style. What you should have left are the notes for the chorus you want played by trumpet. Go ahead and transpose that up an octave. Set that track to the trumpet patch.
Then, using the F5 key at the start of the chorus, select the chorus number you want to have the trumpet (on the melody track) play and tell BIAB to mute the Strings track for that chorus. Then tell it to go back to normal for the next chorus.
You trumpet part will remain static and won't be regenerated, but the strings track will be regenerated for the other choruses and won't play at all during the trumpet chorus (because the melody track will be playing instead).
Just an idea.

And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
