I always come straight to the Band-in-a-Box for Windows forum from my IE Favorites list. Recently I made some changes to my Internet Options in order to clear some problems with Yahoo Groups. Perhaps you don't need to know that history but is caused me to need to login to this forum. After supplying my login details I was returned to the Forum List, where I selected this forum. As soon as I got here I was no longer logged in. I tried this several times with the same result over the last week. In the end I got in through a back door that did allow me to come to this forum without my seeing the logged out sign.
Okay, so I notice there are other people complaining about not being able to post and perhaps they are experiencing the same problems. Each time I logged in, I did request to stay logged in but that had no affect.
Funny you mentioned this. We had a big server update at the office and I have the exact same problem there. I have to log in from one of the forums then post something then I'll stay logged in but just for that session. Close the browser and come back and I'm logged out again even though I check the box to stay logged in.
At home no problem but now I'm pretty sure that's only because I haven't cleared the cookies from the browser which I need to do.
Definitely my problem was caused by changing the 'Internet Options', 'Delete Browsing History on exit'; which I had to do because of some shenanigans at Yahoo Groups and the fact that I like to visit their BIAB Group. However, I now think that the problem was that I had 'Passwords' ticked to be deleted on exit. I did not have 'Cookies and Website data ticked', which is what you suspect and why I thought it might be a bug in the PG Forum itself. So I have changed that and we will see..............
Common problem for me since I carry or use several personnel computers. I am sure it is in the internet configurations, but have given up on some machines since I just can't find what needs to be set to stay logged into this forum.
I'll bet it's IE because the office update probably included IE. Since I can't do much without going through our IT people, it's not that big of a deal, many times I get too busy for much internet surfing anyway.
I stopped fighting with IE years ago. Firefox allows you to see your cookies .. and handle them individually. Try that in IE.
I'm with you Bob. IE would have to be the worst browser of all time. Firefox is my preferred option. Never have a problem. And the Add-ons, Extensions, etc allow me to control and block popup advertisements and more.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
Eh, IE does have its good points, though not many. I have to support it as a programmer, so I know a bit about why/how it does what it does when it does. For regular surfing use though, it is down a ways on my list. I seem to click the FF icon more than the Chrome icon .. and way more than the IE icon. However IE can show you some things easily that are more difficult in FF. Depends on the need. Like I said, if the need is browsing forums FF is more better for me.
If you need to know which ColdFusion file was called for a specific function IE may perform quicker. However I think this latter need is pretty limited for most users.
YMMV
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
Leaving aside the arguments about different browsers because, like Bob, I have to use IE for work-related reasons, I am beginning to think that I was right in the first place and there is something about this specific design of forum that is causing the problem. I belong to several forums where my login details and my request "to stay logged in" are still functioning fine. As I mentioned previously, I did have a problem with Yahoo Groups but that is fixed.
"Remember me" has never worked here and causes issues (I am on IE mostly). So I uncheck it. However, windows 7 does seem to remember my name and password, so its one click in the seemingly blank box and my name and password appear. No trouble really. I have IE set to clear the temp folder on closure (far safer), it still works as above. If I close the browser I have to login again.
