Is it just my imagination but, when doing a vocal (audio) track in BiaB does it do any kind of compressing and limiting to the overall mix, like a noise gate does, when it records my audio tracks? I swear I can hear the music getting a bit softer when the vocals are being sung and then coming back up to normal volume in-between phrases.
Is Biab really doing something or do I need to get my ears checked? I don't notice this happening when I add vocals via RB.

Honestly don't know. I don't record in BIAB as I save that for a DAW. I know my DAW would not do that. And I assume RB would not do that also, but BIAB is a different creature. BIAB tends to like to act smarter than the user and much of the time it could likely be. We know it handles all the default reverb and balancing and FX for mixing the tracks. So it would not surprise me that it also adjusts levels if a audio file is included. Regarding needing to have your ears check? That I don't now  .

I do not believe Biab has built in limiting or compression. It would say so if it did somewhere in the advertisements..... "we inserted limiting and compression for you so you don't have to. Just listen and you can hear it pumping and screwing up your tracks and projects without any effort on your part"....... nahhhh I don't think they would do that.
I think it's probably an audible illusion. A way to check would be to mute the vox....and listen.
I would be kinda mad if a program took it upon itself to add FX that I did not insert because it (or the code writer) thought it knew what I wanted or needed. I prefer to add or not add fx as MY EARS tell me is needed.
I actually prefer not to use limiting and compression for that purpose but rather use volume envelopes to bring things in and out and up and down as needed. I rarely lower the volume of things (background instruments) during the singing. Rather I have the vocals set properly and use fill instruments quite often in the vocal gaps to provide interest.
I think it's an illusion. In the same way a nicely washed and waxed car runs better.
edit: having said that I do believe that the real band real tracks... the individual tracks, not the entire project as a whole, are compressed to one degree or another. Drums and other things..... I've had people comment on my music (who have discerning ears) to that effect on several occasions.

You might want to look at your Synth settings to see if PG-Dynamics was inserted into slot #2.  That might explain it.
