Hi from Oz. (Down Under).
I have BIAB 2013.
I'm creating arrangements using the standard bass, piano, drums and guitar and putting wind instruments on the melody and soloist "tracks".
I then save the files as .MGX files and also saving as midi files to use on my iPad which I can then play on my Ketron SD2 sound module.
Two things are driving me bananas:
1. I have to set the volumes down from 90 to around 50 to 60 for bass, piano etc each time I load in the .MGX files. I've tried using the midi settings dialog and it says
"Ok to save your settings in MYSETUP.DK file" but it doesn't work.
2. I use channels 11 to 16 for wind instruments, but I notice BIAB sometimes uses these channels too. Is there anyway to "reserve 11 to 16" for my use only.
(Sometimes the midi files don't play the right instruments)

Hi Peter,
BIAB uses the upper midi channels for harmony creation and for individual guitar strings (if I recall correctly). It's because you're using multiple midi channels on the Melody track (and maybe the Soloist) that the file is saving as MGX. I don't know too much about this, and it's quite possible that I'm incorrect, but I suspect that BIAB's ability to control the upper midi channels is limited. It might be this that's interfering with the Bass, Piano, etc., track information that you want to save.
Have you tried not using the upper midi channels and saving the song as SGU/MGU? It would be worthwhile doing this as it would help determine if it's use of the upper midi channels that's causing the issue.
Personally, I reckon that Realband would be much more suited to your needs than BIAB. In RB, it's possible to set the midi channel of each track individually and to save all settings easily.

Hi Peter
As well as Noel's good suggestions, have you tried saving with patches and Harmony (File drop-down menu)?
From the Help, it states:
"Patches, Volume, Reverb, Tone, Panning, Bank, Harmony (both Melody and Thru), and the Soloist may be saved with your songs. This is done by selecting the Save Song with Patches & Harmony option from the File menu."
It's an option that I often use, so this might also hopefully assist.
