I haven't used Biab12 in awhile, but when attempting to record, no matter what setting I use either in biab or windows it won't set to record.
I'm sure it's a mis setting somewhere, any help.???
Thanks in advance.
Walt

Hi Walt,

Is it audio through a microphone that you want to record or midi?

Also, when you say, "it won't set to record", does that mean that it won't record or that the record button in BIAB is not available to you?

Lastly, what's your operating system?

Regards,
Noel

Hi Walt,

I have Windows Vista so please keep in mind that my below instructions may vary a little on your system (Windows 7). Overall, though, the general principle will be the same.

Here's how I go about setting BIAB to record a microphone.

1. Close BIAB and RB.

2. Right-click on the speaker icon in the System Tray and then choose "Recording Devices" (as shown on the image below).

3. From the display that opens, I then select the "Recording" tab (#1), choose the "Mic" input (#2), click on "Set Default" (#3) and then "OK" (#4) to exit.

Once all that's done, I start up BIAB and give recording a test run.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. If the above brings no joy, try rebooting your system after making the above changes. Let us know if the above helps.

Sorry Noel, but none of the suggested worked. I tried all the different suggested plugs.
Any other suggestions, besides a new computer...!
Thanks, Walt

Walt,

I suspect that a new computer is not needed. Some questions spring to mind, though ...

1. Did the VU meter on the Audio track show any activity at any stage?

2. Are you using a USB mic?

3. Has this mic recorded successfully in BIAB in the past?

Regards,
Noel

1. Did the VU meter on the Audio track show any activity at any stage? ONLY THE OUTPUT METER SHOWED ACTIVITY.

2. Are you using a USB mic? [b]NO

3. Has this mic recorded successfully in BIAB in the past? YES

However, I just tried to record in another program, and it would not record there either.
Playback is fine. I changed jacks as well.
???
Thanks

Just in case you haven't done this right click on the volume icon in the lower right hand side of the bottom toolbar on Win 7. If there is no volume icon there let me know.

Click on system sound events.
Click on recording, your input device (in the pic I have Line-In clicked) then properties.

Click on levels and set the input level.
Click on apply then OK.
Click on the volume icon and look for an output level menu. Mine is under audio devices/playback/speakers/properties/levels.
Click on apply then OK.

Start BiaB and see if that helped.

Depending on your sound card you may see a different menu(s). Just search for a recording input levels, output levels and sometimes a MIDI recording levels.

If you have already done this then I apologize for the redundancy.

If I knew your sound card I might be able to help you better. You do not need a new computer. With enough information and trial and error we can and will find the problem.

Hi again, Walt.

A few things to check prior to getting any further under the bonnet (so to speak) ...

1. Does your soundcard have an input socket?

2. Is the microphone plugged into the correct socket?

3. Is the microphone turned on?

4. If the microphone has a battery inside, is the battery operating properly?

If you answered "Yes" to the above ...

1. Go to "Opt | Preferences" and select the "MIDI Driver" button.

2. At the bottom right of the window that pops up, select "Audio Settings". Now, on the upper right of the new window that pops up, select "Audio Drivers" and set your input driver to the input socket of your computer.

Regards,
Noel

In Mario's right-most image above, after you click on the volume icon in the lower right of the screen and bring up your sound card mixer info, make sure the little blue speaker icon (to the left of the word, 'Balance') looks like the one in the image above and does not also have a small red circle with a line through it. If it does, that would indicate it is muted; click it once to un-mute.

What sound card are you using? An external one? If so what make and model. An internal one? Again if so what make and model.

The more we know about your system the more precise our help will be.

What do you mean by external, other than the on board.???
yes, I have a SB CT 4810.
it;s been several months since I used the recorder, but it worked fine the last time I recorder. The only work that was done recently was I had a new burner installed a few weeks ago. I have another older computer that I could change out the sound cards and give it a shot.???

Walt,

Just to clarify ...

Do you have the microphone plugged into the pink socket? (At least that's what Sound Blaster recommend if I've managed to find the correct manual.)

Also, do you have a different mic to try in this socket? (It might be that something related to the connection (plug, socket, mic lead) is faulty.)

My apologies if all these questions are tedious but I've found that it always pays to double-check the obvious.

Regards,
Noel

Google/bing "does the soundblaster CT 4810 work in win 7" (no quotes)and you will see that you are not the only one with this problem. Scroll down and you will find the latest drivers for this very old card.

As stated in a couple of the threads you may want to junk the CT 4810 and go with the internal Realtek sound card.

Hi again, Walt.

Here's another thought to add to the mix ...

This comes from JimFogle. He's been keeping a watch on what's been going on in this thread and he emailed me some suggestions that might help.

Apparently, from Windows Vista onwards, Microsoft added another feature to the recording sub-menu. I was unaware of this until Jim pointed it out. It might be that the port you are seeking to activate for recording is not visible.

To double-check this ...

1. Right-click on the speaker icon and select "Recording Devices".

2. Now right-click from where I've put the red X on the image below. From the the sub-menu that pops up, choose "Show Disabled Devices".

It might well be that the device you need to activate for your microphone recording his presently hidden.

Another thing to check (MarioD has already mentioned this)...

3. Double-click on the device for mic input and then select "Levels" from the menu that opens.

Make sure that the slider is set well to the right.

4. Also, as Matt Finley has already mentioned, if the speaker icon that's to the right of the levels slider (see above image) has a red line through it, it means that it is muted/deactivated. Click on the icon to activate it.

Fingers crossed!

Let's see what happens now.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. Thanks Jim smile
