Hello all. I haven't been around for quite a while. Hope all is going well for everyone.

Out of the blue, any BIAB file I locate on the internet appears sort of like ASCI text but actually mostly a series of black triangles with white question marks inside. There are other symbols too but this is the dominant one.

BIAB is working normally and I am using the same computer I've used to access hundreds of files in the past.

Any ideas??

THANKS!

Jim

Welcome back Jim - I remember you!

I think your biab file is 'associated' with the wrong type of file type. Right click on the file, go 'open with' then find the BB.exe file in root drive/BB usually, then select this file, make sure that the tick box 'always open with' is checked, then open the file.

This should fix it permanently, you don't need to do this every time

Hey Jim,

Good to see you back. This has happened to me sometimes.

Try this,

GO to file top left of biab-file utilities-associate file types with windows.

Should do the trick.

I did that with good news bad news. Bad news is it didn't work in AOL. But I can now access all the files via Chrome browser. I don't know if I could access them previously in Chrome because I never tried.

I don't know what the issue is with AOL which I've used for years to access BIAB files. I don't really care too much because I can now DL the files but if anyone has any hints re: AOL I'd be interested.

Best,

Jim

This sounds much more like a browser issue than BB or Windows.
If you've found a browser that works you've found the best solution.

My wife uses one browser for email on one provider, and a different browser for another.
If it works, why fix it?

I'm guessing here but maybe your AOL browser is based on IE, which is much different than Chrome.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I thought AOL browser was based on NetScape, since they previously bought them out. Of course, Firefox has its roots in NetScape, so I wonder if the problem is present in Firefox as well.

Just a thought.

"Any [BIAB] file I locate on the internet" - I was assuming you download the file after finding it, then try and p[lay it on a Windows machine - might have misread this.

Can you just Right on the Link > Save Link As or Save Target As instead of Left clicking on it and letting the Browser work out if to play, open or download it.

I think solidrock meant to say right-Click on the file and Save it to the computer. This would require you to then try playing it using the file on the computer

As for playing it online;
Possibly your AOL browser is simply out of date for the file type. The format may not be recognized. Try updating it.
Like I said in my first post; If you've found a browser that works you've found the best solution.
