Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and Preston Thompson Guitars are sponsoring the Pickers Choice Flatpick Challenge and a good friend of mine named Matt Lindsey has made it into the top 10 finalists. Each contestant had to submit a video of them playing 2 songs. First prize will be a Preston Thompson guitar, valued somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000.00. The winner will be announced on Nov. 8th, 2014. Before anyone asks, I didn’t enter the contest because I’ve let my chops get too rusty to even hope of competing with these guys. Matt Lindsey, one of the finalists, and I used to play the flatpicking contests together and we would take turns backing each other up. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work putting in the necessary practice in order to be competitive. Even if you're not interested in voting there's a lot of good flatpicking on the videos and all are 5 min. or less. I think you bud has a shot. I agree Robb. I listened to all of the players before voting. I've never seen a flatpicking contest that was held online, but at least they have it set up so you can only vote once, and the ten finalists were selected by the Flatpick Guitar Magazine editors. You normally have the added pressure of a live audience, but since it was done by a music magazine, I guess online probably was the best option. Thanks for taking the time to listen.
