Here a change of hats for me. This is a country pop tune - I'm co-writer on this one and lyrics only. Janice Hopkins was the other lyric writer and Moker Jarret did the music and the demo. We're test driving this one - so we love to get some feedback on it. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7121682

Peppy tune, Pete & friends!!! I think the vocals might be sitting on top too much and a bit too hot in the mix (I think I hear some clipping). The mix seems a bit "distant". But, the tune itself is VERY entertaining!!! Made this a Station addition for one of my many stations on SC! Cheers, Mike

Pete,
The mix is hot db's wise. Vocals clip in spots. I've got my slider on 1/3 here and it still clips out in spots.
Tremendous guitar work in that one, someone has some chops...
It sounds more Rock oriented then Country to me. Love the lyrics, great for a Rock song.
Melody didn't quite grab me, but it's doable.
I think the overall mix threw me off a bit, but it is definately a good song in progress. Worth the work, IMO.
Nice job.

Hi Pete,
I agree with what already has been said.
Great chops on that axe man!

Ditto on clipping. Whatever you're using for vocal recording needs a limiter in the chain. Other than that I fully agree with the others. It's a hot tune and a winner. Great dance tune.
One thing. When you come to the instrumental part turn the lead up so it's outstanding. Otherwise it sounds a bit like the vocal is just missing.
The tonal quality is tops.

Hi Pete, I think you have a potentially great country rock number here, I would like to hear it with a reworked mix. I would suggest a driving bass line to compliment the great guitar! Watch out for the clipping too. Good luck, Dave.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the add to your station on behalf of the crew and me. I think your analysis is spot on, and am very happy you enjoyed it. We had considered splitting the cost of having a pro demo made of this one, but the economic downturn intervened with that plan, so thanks for helping us share it with others.

Hi Trax,
Thanks for the encouragement. This song started with my hook line and Janice took it and ran with it and a few emails and we had produced a completed lyric. Moker edited it a bit and added the kicking musical figures and wham-bam. He has a bare bones recording set up, so its raw. yeah, it's in the Southern-rock, country rock category. I'd say the story development and the verse/chorus form make it more country oriented. I think Mokers version is fun in that it defies being pigeon-holed so easily.

Hey Pete......
I agree about the vocals being too much upfront.........the tracks sound a bit hollow in the background. could be too much reverb on the backing tracks. The distortion on the guitar may be a bit too much as well. But that could be just a personal taste thang.

Put me in Toucher's camp on this one. While overall I liked the project it just came across on my system as too much up front and a bit over the top. But again that could be that I am too used to hearing the Delta Blues from you Pete.

I agree with Toucher and Danny C. on your mix. I really liked the "puddles and cuddles" rhyme. I guess it depends on what sound you're really going for - what you have is straight up southern rock. It is a bit guitar heavy for country. You might add a fiddle or some other instruments in strategic places to country up the music to better match the lyrics.
Good luck with it. Sundance

great song pete. As regards the mix it comes across with a real live concert feel to it. If you want to keep it that way maybe a little audience partisapation such as adding a bit of applause at start and end will even make it more live event sounding.
Its a good song and personally I feel it sounds good the way it is for the live concert sound which I find a lot of the time is actually good-the live concert sound has an unique sound in itself.

Loved the song. The guitar work makes it hot. I think you have all the suggestions you need here to make it better. One thing I noticed which has not been said is noise at the beginning. You can easily edit that out.

Hi Mario, I have past your comments on to Moker, and thanks. I see your racing with Team PG. Hey, do you think Peter Gannon might want to sponsor a NASCAR entry? Maybe he'd get lucky?

Hi Russ,
Moker has said he's been working on his recording skills and may put another version together. This one has been languishing for a while ,but now we're getting a wonderful response to it. Of course, sometimes in the reworking you lose that kernel of spontaneity that people liked to start with. Thanks for the listen and the wonderful suggestions.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your vote of confidence in our tune, very much appreciated. The interest and encouragement we've received is definitely making a reworked version seem likely. The idea on the bass line sounds solid to me.

Thanks Toucher, - Your insights are very much appreciated, and spot on.
Danny C. - Thanks, my friend and I'll be posting up some more blues before long
Sundance, -Yes this could go in a much more country way, especially to pitch in Nashville. - thanks.
Joemardo - thanks for you response and I agree.
edbulmer - yes I could easily edit and eg this, but that's not my place in this process, so I'll just let it be.
