Hi,

After installing the latest update for 2015, I was getting a lot of Access Violation errors when accessing the Leadsheet screen, so I fired off an email to support. They suggested I delete and reinstall BIAB. My RTs and RDs are on an external SSD drive.
After Reinstalling and installing the update, I opened BIAB. I then let the style picker rebuild, and then went to the Preferences for both my RTs and RDs. No problems with the Rds, but now BIAB is telling my I'm missing 1715 Real Tracks!!!! I've made sure the folder is accessed on my external, BUT, when I clicked on the box "show N/A RTs", it wont check. Also, the Jukebox now just cycles very quickly through each song in the folder, but does not play.
I sent another email to support tonight with Screen shots, but I think they have left for the day, and I'm trying to put Christmas gig lists together.....anybody have suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Edward
Postscript>After reinstalling many times, I decided to just reinstall BIAB 2014 from my PG Hard drive. But, it will not work, so I don't know how to get the original Real tracks installed again if I can't get this to work.....(Pulling my hair out)

Keep in mind, little is actually "installed" in BIAB. The RT's and styles and RD's are just folders containing all the content. You only need to tell BIAB where they are. So you can copy and paste the folders anywhere.

Ed,

Take a look at this recent post. You may have real tracks in more that one place and BIAB/RB get confused if you do.

Annoying pop ups about realtrack and realdrum folders in realband

Hi Ed,

I sympathise with your frustrations. Two versions of BIAB not functioning. Ouch!

When you installed BIAB 2015, did you double-check that the paths were correct for the RTs? Have a look on your computer's hard drive and see if there are any RTs installed under c:\bb\Realtracks.

Also, have you only ever been getting upgrades from PG Music or have you purchased a full copy of the program on a USB drive? If you have a full copy on a USB drive, what is the most recent version?

Regards,
Noel

Is there a reason that you want to separate BIAB from the RTs and RDs? Maybe putting everything on the same drive would solve your problems. Ray

Hi and thanks guys for the posts!

I have triple checked the path for the RTs and RDs. I now have several problems.

BIAB generates very slowly
NO RTs in my songs
Jukebox will cycle through songs quickly, but not play
Access violation errors like before

I've Un/Reinstalled several times, I've spent hours in the RT prefs page, I've copied ST2/XT2 files from the PG HD, In short its completely screwed up.
Ray-I put my RTs and RDs on an external SSD to speed up loading, but it hasn't made much of a difference.

Tech support is now telling me I need to get the Ultrapak on HD, the problem is I live in Mexico and the issues with taxes and shipping make this a HUGE hassle.
There has to be some way I can get this to work????

Ed,

Did you keep a backup copy of your full \bb directory?

Also, how did you install 2014 was it an upgrade or did you get the version on the USB drive?

Regards,
Noel

Ed, in case it helps:

I read that other thread about renaming the original folder.

Like you, I have my main BIAB program on my boot drive and my RealTracks and RealDrums on another drive.

Let's assume your setup is that the BIAB main program is on drive C. In the /BB folder (or whatever you named it, but /BB is the default) on that drive, there will be a /Drums folder. On my system, there are only two files in there:

AboutDrumsFolder.txt (390 bytes)
AudioPhileVersion.txt (0 bytes)

It is similar in the /RealDrums folder

AboutDrumsFolder.txt (407 bytes)
AudioPhileVersion.txt (0 bytes)

Plus some other folders having to do with Loops (empty), User Tracks (empty in my case) and Data (with style demo files).

I assume if you don't have the audiophile version, you may not have that second empty .txt file in either folder.

In the txt file for RealTracks, it says this:

This folder is used to store the RealTracks audio files.

If this folder is empty, either you haven't installed any RealTracks, or you are using a RealTracks folder location outside of the bb folder (i.e. different from the default RealTracks folder location).

If you are using a different location for your RealTracks files, you need to specify it in the RealTracks Settings dialog in Band-in-a-Box.

and the /Drums folder has a similar .txt message for RealDrums.

Ed, does your setup look like that?

Hey Matt,

thanks so much! Yes, I just checked, I do have that text file in each folder. I have specified exactly where my RT folder is on my external drive.

The funny thing is that my RDs are fine, they load and play without issues. Its the RTs that aren't loading, and even though I copied the ST2 and XT2 files from my HD to my bb folder on my C drive, I still get the message>You are missing 82 ST2/XT2 files. and my RTs won't load or play........

Matt, do you think just putting the RT and RD folders back on my C drive in the bb folder would fix this??

Ed, I would have said Yes until you said that you (correctly) have all the ST2 and XT2 files in the /BB folder with the main program, yet get that error of files not found. Likewise, the failure of a new install of an older BIAB version that used to work 'points' (pun intended) to a corrupted file system.

Maybe run CHKDSK /F on the boot drive? Back up any data first. The worst possible case could still be solved by reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows then your applications.

I thought about that, but with all the Xmas and new years gig prep going on, I just can't deal with it, so I just popped for the Ultrapak HD, it should be here in a week I hope.....

Let's concentrate on one rt that is missing. You will see it listed in the rt picker if you select to show NA realtracks.

The name of the rt will now be

n/a ( reason that it is not found) (name of rt)

So what we are looking for is the reason that the rt is not found. It is one of 2 things.

Rt folder is not found in the realtracks folder that you have pointed to.

St2 is not found in the bb folder

What messages are you seeing on your NA realtracks?

Also, please paste in a sample of the first 20 lines of your Flashmessagelog.txt file. You get that by choosing the menu item help show log of yellow messages. That might be a clue, as usually BB is telling you what is happening with those yellow messages, and we keep a log of them.

I am also getting a lot of access violations in the Leadsheet. Mostly when I go to Options/Notation/Transpose and hit "OK". The sheet DOES transpose, but I have to "X" out of it. PG support could not replicate. I tried running as Admin.

If I uninstall/reinstall and patch, do I lose a registration count?

Hi PhillyJazz,

Firstly, my experience is that if you reinstall on the same machine, it's not necessary to activate the program again. That being said, if there was a problem, simply contact PG Music and ask for your activation to be reset (with a brief explanation of what caused the problem). They will have all your records and know that your request is legitimate.

When you say that you've tried running the program as "Admin", how did you do this? The process that seems to work best is to right-click on BIAB's shortcut (or BBW.EXE), select "Properties" from the menu that appears, and then set the "Run as admin" option that's found under one of the tabs.

I tried to replicate your problem but I couldn't.

Another thing you could try is to deactivate the User Account Control. You don't have to leave it off but by deactivating it and then running BIAB, it will be possible to determine if it's a permission problem.

  • e.g. if everything works with UAC off, then that narrows down the problem considerably

Once this has been tested, simply turn UAC back on again. (It's found under the Control Panel.)

Regards,
Noel

P.S. Windows will probably throw up a few warnings about turning UAC off (it's part of Windows' antivirus routine).
