I would like to alter a Real Tracks soloist to make them play my melody. I notice if I go to the Piano Roll on a Real Track the notes are laid out there. I can move them but it doesn't impact the player. The soloist doesn't see my changes!! But I can regenerate it and there will be a new selection of notes. So, something is telling them what to play. I want them to play the melody I've written.
Any feedback welcome - especially if I'm missing something here.

P.S. would love to be able to break out real track drums to their own track like I can do with a midi file for additional processing in my DAW.

Only a midi instrument can play your melody line. Ray

The notes are a representation of what the artist played; they are not what caused the sound. They figured out what was played and then wrote out the notation for it, so you can see what was played.
The notation came 'after the performance'. The notation does not 'cause' the notes, it represents what you are hearing the artist play.
As far as I know, the only way to change the notes (and make it relate to what you hear) is to regenerate.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

OK - got it and I have a lot of good synths but have yet to find one that can emulate a good sax. I have a tune with a melody and then a generate RT sax solo and my best sounding sax doesn't sound good. This is just being roughed out and I will eventually hire a sax player to do the melody and solo.

when you hire that sax player be sure to have him record you a user track so you can use it forever and forever!!

As it has been said: You can't force a RealTrack to play what you want.
But: You might try to trick it into playing your melody by carefully selecting the chords. Maybe not the entire melody, but a major part and a note here and a tone there off the intended melody line. Then Melodyne might be helpful here. This depends a lot on how complex your melody is, but there is a possibility.
If you have your melody, freeze it and reset the chords so all other band members don't try to play the melody also.
