I am having the same problem with realband. I only get the error when I am working with a song that was created with BIAB 2015. My songs created with BIAB 2014 do not give me the error.

I tried reinstalling, I tried changing from asio to mme, I tried all the latest updates of everything.

Still stuck. Realband is completely stuck

Here is the realband error log for my last incident:

Yes it's great they have a Send Error Report Popup now.
I just got a similar Error in Realband undoing a RT generation.

I have this problem too. For me The problem happens with all sequences that are created from 2015 version of BIAB as well as sequences created from 2014 version of BIAB. But everything worked correctly on sequences that were created from 2012 version or earlier BIAB

Everything works now. No more errors.

This is 'maybe' how I solved it. I tried everything from uninstalling/re installing to updating drivers for everything and getting latest versions of everything and rebooting all components ... nothing helped. I still had the problem. I called tech support. They didn't know what was wrong.

Then I tried to install BIAB on another computer. Guess what that required me to do? Unplug the USB drive (and my Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 audio/digital interface) in order to plug it into my other computer. Anyway, it worked fine on the other computer, so I plugged the USB drive (and my Focusrite Saffire Pro 24) back into my original computer and everything worked correctly!

Here is the thing: I had rebooted my Focusrite Saffire thingie numerous times - turned it off and then on again numerous times. Same with the computer into which the USB drive was attached. But I had never literally unplugged the connection of either the USB Harddrive or the Focusrite Saffire thingie...

Since I tried everything else imaginable (except disconnecting and reconnecting those particular components) and none of that worked, I have to assume that it was the disconnecting/reconnecting that actually solved the problem.

Let me know if you you have had the same thing happen or reason to believe that my experience was from some other cause.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Reconnecting the device could have caused a number of things <grin>
The device driver got reloaded (maybe it didn't get started correctly after going to sleep or something).
It could have triggered a driver update behind the scenes (if Windows is set up to do this)
The physical connection was also moved .. in case it became loose or got dust in it or some other phantom issue.

When stuff like this happens I (try) to remember it for the future and just move on. Solving it after the fact is not likely, but knowing this worked could be invaluable!

did you plug it back into the exact same USB port it had been in? Is there a possibility that it was in a USB 3.0 port one time and a USB 2.0 port the next?

I ask because in my communication with Focusrite, they advised me against using a USB 3.0 port... (didn't say why though... just that results would vary more when using a 3.0 port)

I did notice that I got different results depending on whether my Focusrite was plugged into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.

Bad news: Remember I said that I unplugged and replugged things to fix the problem before? Not this time... It didn't fix the problem. So, I am back to having a useless Realband when it comes to BIAB 2014 and 2015. (My earlier versions work fine)

(I try to highlight a track and get an error code that only goes away if I force-close the program)

So, yeah, I got online with tech help desk. They asked me to email a song file made in my 2015 BIAB and the file I sent them had the same problem when opened with their realband.

It was nice to be validated like that, but they did not have an answer right away. They are sending my song file to the development staff to try to get an answer.

Hopefully soon...

Anybody else having anything weird like this?

I have this same DAMN problem here. I lost my last 30 days trying to find a solution. It seems everyone is having the same problem with the RealBand 2015. So far PG gave no solution. No response. I've tried everything. It is clear that this is a software problem. I use RealBand and BB since 2011 and this never happened. The worst part is...most of my work is connected to this software. I need a solution ASAP. Almost 2 months people are talking about this issue and there is not one answer.

An exception error has occured. You can continue to use the program, but should likely save your work and reboot program.

Hi ammfonseca,

What is your operating system (e.g. Win 7 32-bit, Win 8 64-bit, etc.)? Also, have you changed operating systems between versions 2014 and 2015 of BIAB?

Regards,
Noel

Hello ammfonseca,

I had the same problem as you. I went back and forth with PG Music Tech support and I finally gave up. I had deleted both BIAB and RealBand, re-installed, the whole nine yards. No matter what I did I still got the Access Violation if I tried to hilight an audio track for editing. I started using BIAB 2015 and RealBand 2014 just so I could continue working. I had both RealBand 2014 and 2015 on my computer. I would just rename the folder for 2014 when I wanted to work and then I would rename the folders to use 2015 when I was trying to figure out what was wrong. I finally found a solution. I cannot explain why, since I didn't create the program it is hard to know but this is what worked for me. I found the problem was only with files that started their life in BIAB and then were opened in Realband and converted to seq files. Any seq files that I had started with directly in RealBand were not a problem. I found that songs that start in BIAB and are then opened in RealBand reserve the first 8 tracks. I believe that this was reserved for midi tracks. In my workflow I usually try to use all RealTracks in BIAB before transferring to RealBand. This means that the 1st 8 tracks are empty. I hilighted the 8 tracks (since this was the only difference between songs transferred from BIAB compared to those created initially in RealBand). I then removed the 1st 8 tracks. The remaining RealTracks were renumbered beginning with track 1 and I could then edit any of the tracks. If I opened a BIAB file in RealBand that still had a midi track, the midi track would show up as one of the first 8 tracks. I would then select the midi track, duplicate it to another higher numbered track (ie 12, 13, etc) and then I would delete the 1st 8 tracks and I could then edit any track without getting the Access Violation. I did pass this info on to PG Music but I never did get much of a response. It may be because they haven't been able to duplicate the error. Anyway I have spent the last month sporadically deleting the 1st 8 tracks from all my RealBand files and I am now happily using 2015. Hope this works for you. Hope that PG Music come up with the reason why.
Darren

Another thing to try that is related to Darren's suggestion, is to Make the first 8 tracks Regular tracks (so they are not BiaB tracks any more).

Edit - Track - Make All Tracks Regular Tracks

I do this out of habit, which may explain why I've never seen this issue. It's quicker than Darren's suggestion and may solve the same issue.

Ammfonseca, exactly which release of RB 2015 are you using?

RB 2015 Build 6 (Jan 19, 2015) has a new 'Application Error' dialog that shows stack trace and lets the user email the Error Report to PG Support, or add the Error Report to RBError.LOG.

It will provide more information than just the AV address.

BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.

Videotrack,
I volunteered to email my error log to support and they said, no thanks. They did have me email my song file and it made the same access error on their machine.

They said they'd send it to the development people but that was two weeks ago and they still haven't gotten back to me, and yes, I did recontact support and they told me they'd get back to me when they had an answer.

So, Yes, I am still dead in the water. I bought the most expensive package of BIAB 2015 and now I can't use it.

My BIAB 2014 still works... but, so far it looks like I wasted my money on BIAB 2015

Darren Green and rharv,
I can't wait to try your solutions.
Can't try it til Monday, but Thank you so much for providing some hope for the situation.

I still love BIAB creators, but I am a bit disappointed with the lack of technical support I've gotten from them. The only real help I've received has been from this forum.

Matt and rharv have been wonderful and right now I want to hug Darren Green. Darren, you've offered the first real solution...

No, I haven't tried it yet, but really, I'd totally run out of ideas to try. I will try it Monday and post my results to this forum. smile

Ammfonseca,

I would love to hear your experience with trying Darren and rharv's solutions.

For me they didn't work. I still got the errors after I followed their steps.

Darren and rharv,
As far as I can tell, I followed your instructions. In both methods, I still get the access violation after doing what you said to the best of my understanding. It is possible I did the wrong order of things, but I tried several ways to follow your instructions and each time I still ended up with the identical problem that I had when I started.

You did give me an idea.
From there, to follow up on Darren's truth that it only causes problems with tracks created in BIAB, I simply saved my BIAB file to separate wave files. Then I imported those wave files into a new/empty sequence file of RealBand. From there I was able to select and edit without the errors.

Of course you lose the integration between BIAB and RB when you do it that way. That means there is no longer a benefit to using RB and you might as well use a mainstream DAW that is not related to BIAB and has more features.

Thanks again Darren and rharv, I'll try it again tomorrow.

Ammfonseca, Looking forward to see if it works for you. If it does than I'll know that I followed the instructions wrong.

Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
