Greetings:
CURRENT SITUATION:
I have a Virtual Theater Pipe Organ running Hauptwerk which handles MIDI->virtual theater pipe organ stuff.

I also use a program called Reaper, running Hauptwerk as a VSTi, simply to add reverb as many of the virtual organs are recorded dry.

I would like to add an Electronic Organ (Lowery, Hammond, Wersi, ETC) style backup rhythm accompaniment, and it would seem BiaB is ideally suited.

QUESTIONS:
1) Currently running Win XP 32 bit and hitting a RAM limit so in the next 6 months I will be converting to Win 7, 64 bit and wondering if the licencing will allow removing BiaB from the XP and installing a 64 bit version on the Win 7 machine.

2) Can any/all of the Biab Transport functions be driven by a MIDI message? I would like to use a 2nd Novation LaunchPad device to control the BiaB transport functions to emulate the functionality of the aforementioned electronic organ rhythm features. IE: Start/Ending/stop a given rhythm track. If so I would purchase a 2nd Launchpad for just this feature as my monitor is normally displaying my electronic sheet music and I would rather not have to switch screens to start a track then switch back to start playing.

3) Can BiaB host my Hauptwerk program as a VSTi? If so, I assume BiaB can add reverb to the VSTi thereby eliminating the need for Reaper.

Thank you for taking the time to read these questions.

Welcome to the forum. Your questions are very clear

1) Yes. BIAB 2015 is the only version using copy protection, and that has activation (and you can deactivate a machine to move the program). There are, I think, 3 activations to allow for desktop and laptop use, for example.

2) Pretty sure Yes. Others will know better, but you can at least start and stop BIAB using MIDI, I believe.

3) Should be able to. BIAB can host a VSTi. I'm just not familiar with yours.

Keep in mind we are just users. If you want the official answers, you can contact PG Music Support. They are excellent.

Thank you for your reply Matt.

Seems like BiaB is a go for me.

Being an electronics engineer, I do understand how users have a different knowledge base than the developers, but I find the users tend to try things the developers never thought of but I will follow your suggestion to contact them directly.

Thanks again,
Mike

Really, Matt? I was wondering about that...

This has always been strange to me in that Customer Support seemed okay with personal use on a couple machines, but the actual license for every version upgrade that I have had since the 90's has said...

You know what I mean...

Hi, Joel -

Long time no hear from...

With the introduction of version 2014, the official policy by PGMusic has been to allow 3 authorizations per copy, which can be moved by de-authorizing one machine and authorizing a different machine.

Previously, the policy was one installation per copy, but there was nothing technically present to prevent multiple installations. Now there is, and thus the official change in policy.

At leas that's the way I understand it.

John,

Yes, I have missed everyone. I have transitioned our church worship to live, so I don't use BIAB much other than for songwriting. I also lost my expertise a few years ago, so I don't have much to contribute. However, I continue to be amazed at the progress that is being made in this outstanding product.

I appreciate the response. Perhaps PG Music might consider updating the license file to mention this...

Mike, a little clarification. You mentioned you will be updating to Win 7 64 bit operating system. Band-in-a-Box and RealBand are 32 bit programs. Both programs work fine in a 64 bit operating system. PG Music sells a version of jBridge for $10. JBridge let's 64 bit VSTs and VSTi work with the PG Music programs.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but good to hear from you Joel. I'm glad all is going well with your church. Are you still playing your sax? We have moved from Virginia and are now in Florida. My second job here is as church pianist for the traditional services at a local Methodist church, but I also play keyboard occasionally with the praise band for the contemporary service.

Yes, hi-jack fer sure! Well, I'm over 20 years pastor of the same church. Unfortunately, I also lead the worship, which I obviously do not feel is best, but necessary for a rural church that is growing and in need of musicians. My wife plays piano. I lead playing a Takamine electro-acoustic through Line6 wireless setup (guitar line and headset mic) into a TC Helicon VoiceLive 2. I also use the setup with BIAB backing when performing home-grown songs. Perhaps someday I'll get some demos posted in the Showcase here.
