Something new to me in 2015 is a note description box that keeps popping up and covering the area of the staff where you are trying to enter notes. I'm sure it gives useful information to some people but for me it is really an annoyance because I cannot figure out what causes it to pop up and stay there, or how to get rid of it - permanently!
There is probably a function to switch it off but I can't find it and I am rather busy working on tunes for our band at present and don't need that kind of hindrance.
For that information in the past, I have used right click and 'Edit Note'. I have full control of that function and it works great for me.
If someone could tell me how to switch it off this new box please. Or where to find the instruction on how it is supposed to operate? I sincerely hope you can switch it off.
It doesn't do it for me in BiaB (never has, and I don't know how to turn such a feature on) but it does do something like you describe in RB: Trev
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
Yep, in Band-in-a-Box Audiophile and your picture from RealBand is almost the same as the box I am talking about! It gives the same information but the print is Upper and Lower case and not all caps like yours. Same colour, though.
Like Trevor, I have never seen what you describe in BIAB either (2015 #414, here) and I use notation mode at least once a day.
Is your setup a little different from the usual one? For example, do you run two monitors? From reading the forums for a while, BIAB sometimes does unusual things when two monitors are engaged.
Regards, Noel
P.S. It would be very helpful if you could post a screenshot of what you are seeing.
Okay, I will try using one of Noel's descriptions of how attaching pictures is done.
Further I have discovered that the box comes up when you are entering notes with the mouse and you try to change the note by moving it up or down, or anything else. It seems to be related mainly to editing on the fly.
It looks to be the same kind of box as was illustrated for RealBand.
Yes, I do use two monitors, because I run a laptop and the screen is not big enough. But I have always done this and it did not happen with 2014.
Sorry, but I failed to use the File Manager to attach a file. Maybe I can send you emails or work out a way of posting it on another forum. At present it is just a screen print dropped into a MS Word file.
When you want to use the icon that is "Create a link to an Email", to where do you send the email?
This is very serious for me because it is making BIAB just too slow and difficult to use. So I have to find an answer!
Okay, What I have done is posted the screen print on another forum where they have a much better system of adding pictures. You can find my screen print in one of my posts on The Trombone Forum:
Thanks rec, mate, that has indeed solved the problem. I would never have thought to read down to the bottom of that 'More' box, even though I always make adjustments to the note values to get a legato trombone sound.
Thanks everyone for the help. The guys on The Trombone Forum, even though there are quite a few BIAB users, will wonder what an earth that post of mine was all about.
That's a new one for me! I wasn't aware that that existed. Thanks for pointing that out. This is my 'today's lesson' in BIAB. It seems I learn something new on a daily basis

Glad to help and pleased that it worked for you Graham.

That should solve Graham's problems.
I'm impressed! Noel
Thanks Noel, you have helped me and many others so often it's nice when I can help in return although there is still much to learn with BIAB (not to mention RB which I must look at soon). My first song using BIAB is taking shape nicely now in Sonar and I am just waiting to get over my cold/deafness to add vocals.

Cool! It's very exciting when that first song is done Every time I developing a new composition, I always find myself marveling at just how easy BIAB makes it.
By the way, I just read in one of your posts in the Wishlist that you were interested in Nashville notation. It's a great way of working. Because of your comment, I added Nashville notation to the endings I had listed in Seeker's thread, "Key of A acceptable ending chords" (just in case you're interested).

Thanks Noel, Yes it's a useful option which I was unaware of until your post. Great stuff

Because of this thread I've decided to actually go get a drink, take a deep breath, and methodically going through each BIAB menu, sub-menu, sub-sub-menu,....to see what each option says, does (or says it does).
I won't remember a third of it and the VAST MAJORITY will be as I remember it from last use.
But in future I might indeed remember I saw something about "that" in one of the menus.
Yes, it's probably a waste of time, although the hour or two I spend now (remember I'm using it as an excuse to drink ) will probably save me hours of frustration down stream.
I've gotten lazy over the years and only really LOOK at new/re-installed SW menus, options, etc. when I get into a "WTH,O!" situation.
Really a wish list item but...
It would be good if programmers could use (build) a new API menu set that could set a different default colors to any menu or sub-menu that is a different than last released one, and different colors for new/different menu entries (again referenced against last major released version).
Like the programmer themselves can do/set in program editors: color code new/changed lines of code since last put into library or pulled out of version control lib, etc.

Larry, I do that same exercise every beta test, to get a feel for what is new. Like you, I may not remember everything I saw.
In the case of the 'More' buttons, I don't even have the chance to refresh my memory when visiting those dialogs unless I click on 'More'. I would prefer to see it all in front of me. Now, how that could be done is a good question.

The interesting question is: 'just how did that check-box get checked in the first place'?
I sure doubt that you checked it, and most of us who upgraded didn't get that on-screen hint, but Receder and you both did.
