Hi Alfredo, This is very nice and Charlie has exactly the right voice for this kind of song. Could you post which RT's you've used and is it only BiaB or have you also been playing some of the instruments yourself? The song is rather long. This is a problem with a lot of traditionals. There are a lot of verses, all with the same melody, they go on and on and on.... Maybe it's an idea to choose the most important verses (4 or 5), so that the song will last between 3 or 4 minutes. Nowadays people want everything to be fast.... However.... very nice song! Rob and Anne-Marie

The RealTracks I've used here, are: 1162:Basso,Ac,R,CelticReel Ev 110 887:Piano,Ac,SolAc,FkPpPrarEv100 ~522:Chitarra,Ac,Pizzicato Ev120 1752:Fisarmonica,Pop8vi Lin110 As I wrote before, I've played a guitar-to-MIDI system in order to obtain uillean pipes, tin whistle and irish low whistle: it's a Godin electric guitar on which I've mounted a Fishman TriplePlay, that transmits wireless to a receiver connected to a Mac, where there is Kontakt with the libraries I've used. Alfredo

Hi Alfredo, Posting lyrics help me to follow the story... By posting the RT's I can learn about the way you build up your production. It would be very useful to me. Again a nice production. The Celtic instruments are GR55 sounds then? Good song, and enjoyed!

Thanks, Fred re: the lyrics, if you go to the song's web page: https://soundcloud.com/alfredo-de-pietra/paddys-lamentation-irish-traditionalyou may click on the "Show More" down arrow and you will have the lyrics. The Celtic instruments have nothing to do with GR-55, it's a completely different thing: they are Kontakt VST-instruments driven by a guitar equipped with the Fishman TriplePlay. You may find hundreds of videos online about the Fishman TriplePlay... Alfredo

Nice to hear something from a different genre, makes for interesting listening. The vocal sits really well, so does the title.
Good one

I like this style of Irish/Scottish music. Very nice. Here in NC we have or had, (don't hear of him playing around much recently) a superb musician by name of Mike Cross. Mike was a fiddler, and guitarist. He took the stage alone.... and played the Celtic music and folk music and sang his story songs... like a historian of music. Look him up on Youtube. Lots of covers so look for the original Mike Cross....
Nits:
There's a major chord in there that doesn't fit. Because you play it as a minor.... change to a different chord and then return but the second time it's major.... just doesn't fit. This occurs throughout the song and is very distracting, musically.
The beginning VST instruments are stiff sounding. It's possible to make them sound more realistic but that takes time and effort to add the articulations that a live player would impart to the part. Midi makes it sound too "perfect" and "abrupt:.... a wind instrument fades in and out with a certain attack and decay... midi is ON... OFF.... instantly. Sometimes reverb can help this, other times short volume envelopes are the trick. Also edit the notes to vary slightly in their timing...delay the start a few milliseconds or use a "humanize/randomize" midi function. All this is tedious but adds realism to the music.
The singer's voice fits this perfectly. Yes.. the song is really long but yeah... that is common with the old style songs.... verse after verse.
All in all, I enjoyed this tune.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Laments tell stories. Stories take time to tell. Length is inherent to the genre. No problems here with that.
Well arranged and mixed and presents an interesting tale.
We enjoyed the listen.

I'm sorry if it doesn't fit your ears, but believe or not,the original score is exactly this way, you may check it out yourself. ...And apart from this, you should know that there are hundreds of songs going from minor to major and viceversa... Alfredo
