Just a couple of semi-offbeat instrumentals from FAWM that feature the banjo. The are both short (2 minutes). I don't do a lot of instrumentals so they were fun. Both utilize demo songs from BIAB styles that I just changed the key, tempo and chords a bit. gee 100 bee pmKevin: banjo, ukulele Style is _DANCEP+.STY (ModernDancePop Multistyle[120RS]) RealTracks in style: 1738:Bass, Synth ModernDancePopSync Ev 120 RealTracks in style: 1744:Synth, Rhythm ModernDancePopRaveDrops Ev 120 RealDrums in style: ModernDancePop^11-a:Bass, HiHat , b:Bass, Cymbal ******************* and Found My Happy PlaceKevin: banjo Style is M_ALMOOD.STY (NewAge AlbertiPiano&Strings[140]) RealTracks in song: 1856:Cello, Background PopCountry Ev 085 MIDI SuperTracks in style: 2064:Piano, Rhythm NewAgeAlbertiMoody Ev 140 MIDI SuperTracks in style: 2060:Strings, Rhythm PopCountry Ev 120 (Note: This style uses Hi-Q files, but I never got sampletank going!) Hi Kevin,
gee 100 has a very interesting rhythmic structure. It's nice how it develops. And I like the banjo playing. Happy place is not my favourite. It sounds a little like banjo rehearsal.

I found both interesting. I thought the background instruments fit better in "Found My Happy Place".
Enjoyed listening to both tunes.

Scottt709: Thanks for stopping by and giving them a spin! I appreciate it.
boehm: Happy place was part of a song skirmish (write and record a piece to a given title in 1 hour!) so maybe it is a little more "practicey". However, I think the first one was a one take also -- maybe the chord progression or feel was just easier for me. Thanks for the honest opinions -- they are helpful.
c_fogle: Thanks, that was a nice cello patch. Maybe I will work on them some more after fawm. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.
Soon FAWM will be over and I will be able to re-enter the real world again!

Hi Kevin Nice style on 100bpm in G. Sounds a bit reggae to me. I think happy place is quite beautiful. Definitely new agey. Cheers.

re: gee 100 bee pm Interesting 'World beat' sitting as the fundamental rhythm. The build was really required, and improved the song as it progressed.

Found My Happy Place.
Certainly an interesting choice of instrument to use a banjo with that style, giving the song an oriental feel, the instrument could have also been a sitar within the environment of the song itself.
quite unique!

Hello Kevin,
these two instrumentals sound very nice! The banjo is very well-placed.

Hey Kevin,
I like a lot about these two songs!
First of all, I liked the marriage between EDM and banjo. Not something you hear every day, but it really had an interesting sound
Likewise, the cello and banjo make another unexpected but quite pleasant combination
And thirdly, I liked the fact that you didn't play the banjo with rolls or by strumming, the way the instrument is usually played. Playing single notes on the banjo with unexpected backing instruments really opens some great developmental possibilities! I'd go so far as to say that a person could take quite a while to exhaust the possibilities that you've introduced here...
And I suppose the intent of FAWM is to do exactly that: to force many people to capture innovative ideas without giving them time to fully develop anything before moving onto the next song. Refining the idea diverts attention from the discovery process.
But, that also kind of makes it hard to listen to the average FAWM submission, because they are rarely what they could have been if the composer had time to focus on it and bring it to a state of completion. But that's the whole point, right? Keep the ideas flowing! You can develop the ideas for the other 11 months!
I'd say you're onto something here.

I used to play with a guy who could single note play every fiddle tune known to mankind -- on a banjo. Both of these are inventive, experimental and well done in my book.
Enjoyed them.
