Hi, first post here, I've been doing home recording for many years with various DAWS and have the non audiophile version of BB. A question in general: As an example, if I take a drum part that was generated by BB exported it as a WAV file and imported it to my DAW and did this for both the Audiophile and non-Audiophile version, would I hear a noticible difference in quality between the two versions?
thanks, I'm trying to decide if I should get the Audiophile version. I'd have no problem purchasing if the quality if better.

In a word - yes. Especially the cymbals, but the stick hits as well. The difference in the Audiophile version and the standard is subtle, but noticable.

Edit: I assume that you in particular would hear the difference, since you have been recording for a while. If you're doing any serious work, the Audiophile is a no-brainer.

Regards,

Bob

Unless you are, like me, one of the oldest pharts on the board and destroyed your high frequency hearing decades ago in which case mp3's rendered from the standard version sound great. grin

Welcome to the forums Randy. This is a common question on the forums. I've linked one of the past posts in which Solidrock provided a Spectrum Analysis between the two versions so you can see the difference....

Audiophile Version

There is a lot of info in that good thread Steve just linked to. My advice there remains unchanged.

Will you hear a difference?

depends on your ears and the speakers you are using.

Most here have the basic version... not the audiophile version and it sounds pretty good. I like to drop the files into my DAW and enhance them with EQ and other such things....

The quality you can get from the regular version and a bit of tweeking with plugs is good enough to get you into the major film & TV libraries with broadcast quality recordings..... how much better does it really need to be?

I started off with the standard versions. The sound is, as you know, quite good.

I did a lot of research before switching to and investing in Audiophile. In my view this has been a worthwhile decision. The high's certainly definitely come through that slightly bit 'crisper' than before. This is identified in SR's tests also.

Everyone will have a different take. Some people swear you cannot tell the difference. Put Standard in the left channel and Audiophile in the right, and I believe that most people can tell the difference. If your material is only used live in a crowded bar, then you won't see a benefit. If it's used for broadcast / advertising situations, you will be able to notice the distinction.

Oh, and P.S. : Welcome to the forum!

VideoTrack makes a good point. A friend of mine has the audiophile version, I have the standard version. We frequently trade files back and forth as we work in each others home studios. He gigs on the outside, while I work exclusively in the studio. His home setup makes use of mixing boards and PA's, while mine is all digital and uses 8" reference monitors. We both feel that mine sounds a bit better, but we agree it's not the BIAB version we're using, it's the type of equipment driving the sound. YMMV.

That's exactly the point! Takes more than just the Audiophile version to make it work properly.
