This whole "kickstarter thing" is weird. Someone needs cash for their project and offers you incentives to contribute. Sometimes the incentives are of some value other times the incentive is that warm feeling you get when you give someone money.
Don't get me wrong, I have actually sent money to one of these. I kinda knew the guy and felt like it was my way of contributing to the arts for him to release his album. Plus I got a signed copy (or I will when it releases.)

Dan, you have a misspelling in your post that makes it quite funny.
Kickstarter is great. What a perfect way to find out if you really do have willing to pay fans. I think it's a great mechanism to forward the arts without corporations being involved. As with any business model, there are only a few that are making good money, but there are also many that are funding art projects that would have had to be self-front-loaded and therefore would not happen without something like kickstarter.
