Is this basically the same thing we have built in to Band In A Box? That's what I'm talkin' about. So are there any manuals for this TC available to show me how to set it? I really hate experimenting. Takes up too much of my time. I'm hoping I don't have to buy a harmonizer. (Since I can't do it myself).

Hi Gene,

To the best of my knowledge, it is TC Helicon in BIAB. Unfortunately, you will have to experiment around with it a bit to get it to produce the best sound for your voice. I have the 2008.5 User's Manual for BIAB and Audio Harmonies can be found on page 259; it's in Chapter 10 of the guide. It's worth the time to play around with it because it gets some good results.

I suspect that the song DRiddle uploaded a couple of weeks ago - Angels Watching Over Me - used BIAB to create harmony. (I might be wrong here, though.)

All the best,
Noel

Just load the song you want to mess with, cut it to one verse of 10 bars, no long intro, and experiment. It is much faster that way.

I think it's basically the same. The video harmonies sound really good and it's possible that it's been updated a few times since added to BIAB and PT. But I wouldn't know. I do know that what comes with PG Music products sounds really good to my ears. I just used TC on a song and compared it with the actual background harmony that I recorded for it. The TC generated vocal was pretty close to the real thing (while buried in the mix, of course!). Listening to the full song, I couldn't even tell it was fake when using headphones.

I know some people hate it, but it's a really nice tool and the fact that it's free with BIAB and PT makes it even better.

No, it is NOT the same as shipped in BB. The Harmony M is a hardware pedal used to create harmonies via midi notes froma keyboard. The TC in BB/PT is a software harmony generator, made by the same company, TC Helicon.

The TC Helicon in BB/PT will work "ok" if you you use a clean, dry, and in-tune mono vocal for it to use to create harmonies with. My choice is to use "follow the chord changes" setting in the TC box. I also set them to send each harmony created to its own track in PT.

The cleaner the original mono vocal track is, the less "robotic" sounding tracks it creates.

You can then add FX, pan and create a mix to blend them to sound more natural.

Thanks all. I am going to experiment with it. I will read all the documentation that Noel mentioned, and check out the videos pghboemike stated, as well. I have used John's tips of Keeping it simple, before. It works. One time I recorded a whole song, ready to harmonize, only realizing something was not plugged in, and got a message saying to record an audio, and you can harmonize it! It pays to check out a few bars first, and then go. . for sure.
DanL and others are getting good results from it, so I will study it for a while, with just some scratch tracks of no importance, until I feel I am getting somewhere. I do not sing well, (maybe about like Neil Young at best), and I can't harmonize. (Remember that Rolling Stones song,, " When you're down, on your luck, and you just can't harmonize. . . find the girl with the far away eyes")
Muzic Trax has me the most worried, he says, "use a clean, dry and in-tune mono vocal".. Oh well, two out of three ain't bad.

Thank you all, have a good weekend. It's Jose and Music time!!!!

My humble opinion is that The problem with the "follow the chord changes" setting is that if you sing a note over a chord that is not part of the chord it will harmonize to a note in the chord which can produce some interesting results but not what you originally intended.

What would be best is if there was a "pitch to midi converter" built in so that the harmonizer would follow the midi copy of your vocal and hence what you originally intended.

With that said I love the TC Helicon harmonizer it is simple to use and can help make a decen vocal sound even better.

Just off hand, I'm kind of leaning to the follow MIDI method also. I have followed the chord change way, and I have been known to hit an off note. (like alot). So In foresight, (do we ever use that enough?) I may have better luck laying down a midi melody, based on how I want to sing it, and click the button to follow that. And, if I understand it all right, can also then use "pitch correction" on my vocals, if needed. Of course, I don't have a controller right now. I always need to rely on electronics to fix my inabilities. LOL.. Oh well, at least its fun, and thankfully, I don't perform live.
