Just wanted to pass along a recent experience, not music related per say, but of interest to a tech savvy group like this.

I recently made the jump from a "regular" TV to one of those "smart" TV's. Mostly because I use Youtube and Pandora to find new music.

After getting it all set up up, I connected to the internet via wireless. Works great...just no Youtube, no Pandora. Yet I can load vids from CNN, CNBC, MSN, NBC...well you get it....any other site except Youtube and Pandora.

So to Samsung tech support for 3 days and over 6 hours...resets, more resets...the TV, my router, my modem...still nothing. Samsung tells me its a Google problem. So call the Youtube folks...more resets. They finally tell me its a Samsung problem.

So I'm on my own. Figured what the heck, I'll dump the wireless route and go hard-wired. Run Cat 6 wire from the modem to the router to the TV. No change.

So, I start running speedtests. TestMy. DSL Reports, Speedtest.net all show I have 45+Mbps coming in! More resets...nothing!

Finally, in desperation, I bypassed my router and went directly from my cable modem to the TV...success! So the problem seemed to be the router. I then hooked up a non-wireless router between the cable modem, the TV and my other 2 hard-wired computers...success. So now I know that my wires are good and there's something going on in my wireless router.

In the wireless router, I played with QoS, MMW, assigned static IP addresses, changed MAC addresses, DHCP addresses etc....nothing helped with the Youtube vids nor Pandora.

Finally, decided to try a new router from BestB (mine was only 4 years old!). Got a hot Netgear Nighthawk. And its like night and day. Youtube, Pandora and everything else loads super fast with no drop outs, 4K looks amazing, wired speeds are some 20% faster! Wireless almost doubled. 5G now fully operational with much more bandwidth.

Moral of the story....new toys are power hungry. Even if your "old" toys are only 4-5 years old, they may not play nice with new toys.

So what was the other thread about Win 10 saying......

Similar story here.....

Several items on my in house network are direct to the cable modem. Wireless router is just one of the things that's also plugged in as a branch and used just for the wireless node it provides. There's also a hardware firewall that also acts like a switch, into which all the wired computers and some of the other devices are connected..... computers, alarm, additional remote switches, phone booster gizmo, etc....

When I switched from one provider to another, I had to run the TV aux devices direct as well. They ran fine on wireless with the other provider but not the new one.....and no amount of support would get it done.... like you found out...one support guy blamed the other one's device and vice versa..... so a cable direct to the modem, and it was working like a champ.

Reminds me of something I've been wondering about. My smart TV and Blu-ray player each have YouTube in firmware. My iPhone 4 will no longer run the YT app, but I can call it up in my browser and run it there, linked to the TV via Wi-Fi.

So here's the thing. After watching YT on any of them for long, over an hour or so, the video will stop and a "Loading" message appears, but playback never resumes. Only option if I wish to continue is to switch to another device. It's a pain.

I have cable Internet that runs from 12-20 Mbps and a wireless Netgear router that is less than a year old. This doesn't happen in any of my hardwired devices. (Ethernet to my entertainment center isn't feasible.) I'm not even asking for illumination, just musing aloud. Such are the vagaries of being digital.

The other thing that I have come to know about Youtube is that it constantly adjusts the video quality up and down based on the download Mbps. At times, I can go from UHD, to HD, to low rez and back again. Even when using an assigned 2 or 5 GHz channel. Thanks Comcast! Must avoid the 4PM-9PM timeslot. That's when all the oldies around here are on the internet. Once my neighbors go to bed at night, it flies!

Yup... I was thinking you should see the speeds start to pick up around 8pm to 8:30pm and then go wide open after 9pm.

I used to have to look at the clock and if I wanted to call my mom in the evenings, it needed to be before 7:30pm at the latest..... she was "lights out" by 8pm...even in the summer. But she was up at 6am at the latest every day.

The old toys are designed to be replaced every few years as well. The "system" was designed so that if you want the latest and greatest, you will have to pay for it. That is why they change the power cord ends etc, so that you HAVE to buy the lates in order for your toy to work.

Yeah, iPhones and WiFi can be problematic. Sometimes they will just work with no problems at all, others you need to fiddle with the Access Point settings for ages to get the right combo - and even then it's unpredictable. I forget the particular setting that's the biggest problem.

Also, iOS 8 is very buggy WRT WiFi...

Interesting. I have a Visio that I bought 3 years ago and I have never had an issue with it that wasn't the fault of the guy holding the remote control.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
