Is there a way to export the generated Real tracks (especially piano) to midi files? Apparently, they exist otherwise there wouldn't be a notation or piano roll record... but I haven't found out so far.
I'm asking because I would like the Real tracks to sound better on my external digital Yamaha piano.

koky, As you've noted, if a Realtrack has notation associated with it (not all Realtracks do), a midi file can be generated. Simply drag the track with the RT on it to the "mid" quadrant labelled #2 on the image below.  If you look in Help for "drag-and-drop" you'll find some notes about it. Regards, Noel

Be aware that the MIDI you see was generated after the RealTrack was recorded by an actual musician. The MIDI will be an approximation, not an exact match, and will often lack the subtlety of the real recording.

Yep... there's no way I'm aware of to get an exact midi file of what you hear in a real track.
I tried when I first got BB/RB because the RB track was awesome but lacked tonal quality. I wanted to convert it to midi and use one of my nice piano synths..... no such luck.
I could render the track to midi but as was said above about it being close.... not even close in my case. It sounded very midi and nothing like the original.

I'm the case of piano, the Realtracks are recorded on a Yamaha Disklavier piano, so the MIDI should be an exact representation of what was played (within the limitations I'd the Disklavier technology). Sensors in the piano detect what notes were played and the precise velocities.
For other instruments like Guitar, MIDI pickups are used. That technology is less precise, because it has to deduce what frets were played by analyzing the analog audio input coming from the string. Using that as a performance would depend on many things, such as what samples you are using in the MIDI synth, and the accuracy of the MIDI recording in the first place, and the importance of effects like vibrato that weren't captured.
So the short answer is that using the MiDI track from the Realtracks (ie the Realchart) as a musical performance works great for pianos and keyboards, and "hit and miss" for other instruments.

I appreciate you providing a look behind the scenes regarding how you create the midi notation for RealTracks. You've described the use of midi pickups on guitars and a Yamaha disclavier for piano and keyboards.
I'm wondering if a wind controller is used to collect midi data in support of the creation of wind or brass RealTracks?

Jim, I don't know about recent years, but in the first years of RealTracks, I did some transcriptions of electric guitar soloists and especially sax players. I modified the MIDI I was given, though I don't know how it was created. It was not suitable without editing.
When I have recorded MIDI from my WX5 wind controller, I was amazed at the literal storm of MIDI data. Heavy input filtering was needed to even begin to make sense of it for transcriptions.

Besides all the other answers, Melodyne has the capability to convert audio to midi. It is not perfect. But, one instrument is rather easy to handle for that piece of software. On the other hand, it is quite an investment... If one is thinking about buying Melodyne remember that Melodyne Editor will do polyphonic while the less expensive versions will only handle monophonic.
