I have used the demo song from " BOSANUVO.STY Bossa Nuvo - Med-up Bossa" as the lead track on my latest CD project. Great tune, great drum track. But I need to know the name and author. I posted this a while back with no success, but I am mastering in a week, and would appreciate the licensing info.

it appears that the song was created by whoever makes up demo songs for the Style Menu, though I could swear I have heard this song before.

You can hear the pre-mixed track at:
Especially for Groovers
It is the first song in the playback window, or the first text headline below (Beach Girls).

ANY help appreciated, thanks. Who wrote this tune? I have currently on the label attributed it to P. G. Alguém (Portuguese for "somebody.") but would really prefer to do it right.

Thanks.

Years ago we had a little contest here naming the classic tunes the demo songs were based on. We came up with a good 30 or 40 names.

I don't know if those tunes were written by anybody. Biab has a pretty good melody maker function it might just be something the program came up with which means you're free to use it. Remember chord changes cannot be copywritten which is why so many demo songs sound familiar.

Have you tried using the melody maker? Or how about trying the soundtrack function? The soundtrack allows you to set many different elements of a song and the program creates the whole thing from the chords to the melody to the style used and it even names it for you. It's a great starting point for a writer. You can keep regenerating it until it comes up with something you like and you're free to use it any way you want. Keep it as is or keep most of it but make some changes.

I see you dropped it a full step. I do recognize the progression but can't place the tune yet. It does resemble some early Jobim. I'll keep thinking about it. Bars 4, 5 and 6 are the only changes unique enough to have hope of placing it.

Yeah, Matt- don't know why, I just liked the way it laid in the spectrum (it was already bright enough...) But I LOVED the drum track, there was a Brazilian musician who lived here locally for years named Helcio Melito. He played an instrument of his own devising he called a Tamba. Basically a small frame drum/percussion collection. He played very much like that track; when I heard it I immediately was brought back to the Inn at Spanish Bay (Pebble Beach.)

And if the Melodist can write stuff that good, I WILL have to check it out... :-)

I agree, it's a very nice tune as is. Good choice. There are a couple of 9th chords (bar 9, bar 11) where I might have expected a minor; gives the song a positive flavor.

No help but

The OPENING bars, only the opening bars, under a different beat, key, and clearly style - sure sound an awful lot like "Where or When" bars 5-8'ish (if Rogers & Hart had been into "Bossa" styles)

Thanks for the idea, Larry, but I am a major punster, and would have picked up on the melody - though the changes do have similar motions, they cannot map (though i think I WILL try this style with that tune, so again - thanks for the idea... grin
