I'm running BIAB 2015 on a Windows platform. Generally, BIAB works okay, except sometimes I have a situation pop up where I can see MIDI audio being generated via lights in the mixer section, but no audio comes out. I always doublecheck driver and audio route settings and click around looking for a solution until I just give up on BIAB and close it down. It invariably works the next time I try it a few days later.
I've got this problem going on at the moment. I've opened up my DAW program and played a file with MIDI and hear what I expect to. Going back to BIAB, I have a song open which shows signal at the BIAB mixer when I play it, but absolutely nothing shows up on the Windows mixer, so signal apparently can't get out of BIAB for some reason.
Question: I've tried soft booting my PC on this session and opening up BIAB again, but to no avail. Do I need to hard boot my PC when this happens or is there something else I'm somehow missing?

I'm wondering if your DAW may not be releasing some Windows resource needed for another program to play midi.
Question, if you boot up your pc and begin your session with BiaB do you have the issue? What VSTi or soft synth are you using for the instrument sounds?

Sounds to me like a sound application is not releasing the ASIO drivers for another sound application to use.
Often ASIO is a one dog master type of feature .. one program controls it, and if it doesn't release the drivers another program can't use it.
A hard boot would likely work better than soft (driver status may be held in memory)
However, this is not the best fix; correct settings for good ASIO drivers is much better.
Do you close the DAW completely before opening BiaB? This would likely help .. plus giving the system a couple seconds to fully 'release' the ASIO drivers.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

When I don't hear Midi I open "Opt." - "MIDI/Audio Driver Setup" and then click "OK". It usually works after that.

Many thanks to everyone who responded. I just tried opening BIAB again and trying to produce some sound prior to opening my DAW. I immediately got a string of yellow prompt boxes which were all ASIO-related, so my guess is that I've got driver issues. Insert big sigh here - I hate mucking about with tech issues instead of making music.
It's the weekend, so I've got gigs back to back to back and won't be able to put time into tracking down the source of my "pain in the ASIO" until Monday. I assume that re-installing the ASIO driver would be a good first step. Anything else I should be paying attention to?
