I entered an arrangement of the song Dindi into BIAB. This particular arrangement has 18 bars rest for guitar. When studying the song i'd like to skip most of the rests, I'd like to skip 16 bars. I want Biab to jump from 89 to bar 105. Is that possible? How? You might suggest: "Why don't you delete 16 bars?" Well, I want the bar numbers to correspond to the score I have on paper.

Never seen this one before. I don't think it is possible to have BIAB skip 16 bars.

I don't think it is possible to have BIAB skip 16 bars. You could simply mute all the instruments in those 16 bars. If you can hit 108 at the right time - Man! that would be impressive! (there are people with perfect timing - savants, I think...)

I understand it to mean he wants to skip the 16 bars which will result in the bars not playing instrument. I accomplished that using repeat and tag. If he just wants to skip the guitar part, muting with F5 will do the trick. To skip 16 bars, i did the following:
I changed bar 89 to two beats from 4 beats. I changed the chorus from 1 to 2 and set the chorus start and end at 89 so only the two beats of bar 89 would repeat but play as one 4 bar measure and only produce the one desired chord.
Then in song settings I clicked tag exists button and I set my tag jumps after bar 89. Tag Begin to 108 (skips the 16 bars) and finally Tag ends after bar 116.
I did this in BB2015 and created a song to test this and my set up was to enter 8 bars of music and chorused bar 8 as described above, inserted 16 blank tracks and tagged bars 28-31 and it skipped the blank 16 bars. I'm assuming when he studying he doesn't want to listen to the 16 bars of guitar rest playing through, but rather just have the parts where the guitar is playing being heard for study. This skips everything in the 16 bars.

^^^^ This....I'd like to hear that as well...I would always be about half a bar off I reckon after 16 of silence

I don't use the function, but isn't there an ability to define sections, like A, B etc. then specify playback by section? Sorry, I'm not at a computer now, but this feature was added a couple of years ago.

Like Charlie states, you could do it with a tag, this would show the unwanted bars, but jump at the right point.
Otherwise, mute the bars with F5, but they would still play through, not skip.

I think what Matt alluded to is the song form maker, which you can use, but you'll have to "undo" after using it, or you'll lose the middle section of the song (the part you skipped).
Maybe a better way is to use the conductor feature, which allows you to define sections of the song, then use a hot key to jump to the specified section.

You might suggest: "Why don't you delete 16 bars?" Well, I want the bar numbers to correspond to the score I have on paper. Wouldn't that be an item for the wish list: Assign bar numbers -- if you, for whatever reason, need them corresponding to other material? Then you could print a sheet for band members containing only, e.g., measures 49 to 55 with correct numbers for easier communication purposes.

I think that actually what I would do is just create a second file that eliminates the middle bars and name it something like "Dindi (practice)". Then just make a copy of the paper music and pencil in the new bar numbers. That would take all of about two minutes to do.

We are always rushing off to the wish list to add some new feature when there is a very simple and low tech solution. Great thought, I like the way you think.

Thanks for the replies. I'll experiment with the tag.
Matt Finley mentioned sections, but I could not find them in the help-file.

OK, John knew what I was talking about (no surprise there), the Song Form. I don't think it's in the menus but there's an icon for it in the Tools toolbar. It's right under the box for Number of Choruses.
I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but look in Help, Index, Song Form Maker. You would give your empty measures a section letter but not use that letter in the song form.
However - this is on BIAB 2015, and you said you have BIAB 2013. I don't remember which version introduced this feature but it is recent. I thought it might be in 2013, but what do I know?
Checking now..
If it's not in 2013, this is one more good reason to consider upgrading.
EDIT: Good news, I was right: this feature was introduced in BIAB 2013. Here's their description: A new Song Form feature allows you to define sections of a song (A, B, C etc.), and then rearrange the song by simply typing the form you want (e.g. AABABAACA). You can revisit this dialog, to re-order the sections. Or change a chord in the “A” section, and propagate the changes through all of the “A” sections.
Bad news: doing this renumbers the measures as if the omitted section wasn't there.
Good news: it's undo-able. And you can always print before invoking the song form (or even after).

Matt Finley mentioned sections, but I could not find them in the help-file. You should find the tag is easy as well as quick. Should take less than a minute to complete. Same with undoing the change and returning every thing back to normal. Keeps your measures in correct numerical order. You could also save a tagged copy of your song for practice as John suggests. Hope you get it worked out.

I tried the Song Form dialog. I defined section A: Bar 1 - 89 B: Bar 90- 105 C:Bar 106 - 136 Form: AC which excludes section B, so section B was skipped. However this adjusted the bar numbers. The result is the same as deleting the 16 bars that form the B-section. On the bright side: I learned a new trick in BIAB.

Yes, when I tried it, I posted that under "Bad news". It's a handy feature even if it doesn't help your problem.
