In RB how does one move the physical track, slide it forwards or backwards etc? In my DAW (Samplitude Music Studio) I simply left click on the bottom portion of the track and I can move it forwards, backwards or up and down tracks. I cannot seem to figure out how this is done in RB.

Hi,
Ctrl+left click on audio track and drag and drop to new location. An options window opens to move/copy etc.

I believe you have to select a region before you can drag it to a new location. The instructions from the user's manual are: You can move a highlighted region by holding down the Ctrl key with the left mouse button pressed, and drag the region to a new location in the song. After releasing the mouse button, you have four options: 1. Move to new location and overwrite 2. Move to new location and merge 3. Copy to new location and overwrite 4. Copy to new location and merge.

And if you want to move the whole track to the LEFT, you can't really select all the way to the beginning, or there's nowhere left to move it.... you have to start your selection far enough to the right that you have un-selected space to the left of whatever you've selected. If that makes any sense...

I find when needing to move the whole track, that it is easier to highlight the data in the track - Cut and paste to your new position. This can be accurate using the Paste Panel options.

Excellent, in fact! The advantage being that when you cut and paste you get the option to numerically specify a start point, whereas when you slide, it's all visual. When sliding multiple tracks, it's easy to get slight misalignments. But, in defense of sliding: when you want to slide to the right, it's so easy to highlight the whole track with CTRL-A then visually nudge it...

You are right Pat. I also use "sliding" to nudge tracks.

Engage the -2 offset so your audio starts at bar 1. You can select and delete the blank space in the -2 bars area and then select your audio and move it left up to the two bars. Select more negative bars if you need more area to the left. One issue you may have doing this is that regenerations of tracks will start prior to bar 1. These can be deleted but I have found that the extra bars generated actually help make the audio at bar 1 better because the generated music in the first two bars make the bar 1 audio a more musical phrase because its influenced by the first two bars. Not always the case but many times it is.

After you have selected and moved the tracks. Other than clicking in the track to de-select it, is there a keyboard short cut for de-selecting ? i.e., an opposite to CTRL-A ?
Clicking in the selected area sometimes creates a tiny small selection, just annoying..
For some reason, my RB 2016 help file locks up when I try and search it.

What would you like to happen when this shortcut is triggered?
Select nothing? Or select one track? Or (?)
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Select nothing? Or select one track? Or (?) Un-select what I have selected in the track, after I have finished what ever I am doing with it. Most all editors have this capability to un-select. Windows 10 has a "select none" button, too, in the folder browser. Some even allow inverting the selection, if that would be useful in a audio editor, I am not sure. (maybe deleting before and after the inverted selection) But usually, what I am doing, is selecting a section of a track, then deleting it. But, the highlighted section is still there. If I don't need anything highlighted anymore, would be nice NOT to have to click and drag again. Is there a shorcut key? My help file crashes when I try to load it. And there isn't anything in the PDF manual that I can find.

Are you running Windows 8 or 10? If so, try launching the help file directly by double-clicking on RB.chm in your x:\RealBand\ folder. See if this improves the situation.

I find the best way to unselect is to press F7 then F8 (start select and end select)which effectively selects nothing if you haven't moved the time line.

Hitting the escape key on my computer keyboard un-selects what I have selected.

What Charlie said - the ESC key deselects whatever is highlighted.
