Hi,
I have BIAB 2014 - but am just starting to learn it.
I want to import a youtube video { actually I just need the audio part. } { or any mp3 }
I want to
1. Play along with the audio .
2. Figure out the chords.
3. Add my own vocal / cut out the original vocals.
4. Change the arrangement / add new parts / new bass, etc.
+ eventually delete the original.
A. How will biab/ realband figure out the imported tempo?
B. Can my new tracks be at the same tempo as the import?
{ will it match, or will it drift? }
C, can realband 2014 figure out the chords, or do you have to start in BIAB?
And can the above be done in 2014, or do I need 2015?
thanks,

Hi KGU, WOW! Bunches of questions! That's okay. It's why we're here! Once you have an audio file from the YouTube video you can use the Audio Chord Wizard (ACW) found in both Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) and RealBand (RB) to help figure out a tempo map and chords of the audio file. Open either program then press the Audio Chord Wizard button on the "Tools" bar of BiaB or "Audio" bar of RB. There is a link in the wizard to play a tutorial video. Both 2014 BiaB and 2014 RB have the Audio Chord Wizard. Most of the time vocals are removed by removing audio that exists in equal proportion on both the left and right channels of a stereo file, the center channel. That is because vocal, solo lead instruments, bass and bass drum normally are panned to center channel. One of the effects PG Music includes compares and removes center channel audio. So you should have everything you need to perform the tasks you asked about using 2014 BiaB or RB.

Hi,
thank you for reply. This sounds very encouraging. When I bought the program, I was quite enthused, but wasn't prepared for the huge learning curve.
Hopefully Biab will meet my needs. I'm glad you guys are here, to help.
thanks

BIAB 2014 and 2015 aren't much different in regards to your questions. If you do wish to upgrade, be aware that if history repeats, there may be a BIAB 2016 sometime before Christmas. PG Music does not pre-announce new products, so this is only a guess.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Is it cheaper to go from 2014 to 2016, rather than 2014 to 2015 { for 2 months}, then to 2016?

I don't know. My advice is to call PG Music Sales and ask.

I just imported a video, and ran the chord wizard in RB.
Is there a way to stop the sound from the mp3 imported original file, and listen only to the chords the wizard has made?

Yes, Mute the audio track (right click and select mute). You can also go to the audio menu and erase ( kill ) the audio track. I'm not in front of the computer, so I apologize if I left any details out.

That sounds right. Next question, you might want to start a new thread for a new topic; it should get better attention that way.

Dave thanks DaveG, but unfortunately I don't see these options?!

Dave thanks DaveG, but unfortunately I don't see these options?! Look for the word, "Audio" at the right end of the third row down on your screen. It's on the row starting with Master, Bass, ... Thru Left-click on that word, Audio, to bring up the options. You can then Mute the audio, or Kill it (which means, delete it), and a couple of other options. I'm reasonably certain this was the same in version 2014 as it is now.

Usually it is only $20 more + the upgrade price to go to a version a few years or more out of date to the current version. If my memory serves me correctly you will be able to upgrade to 2016 biab from 2014 version for approx $159 ultra pak (which has virtually the works) on a hard drive + approx $20 for shipping. This is going on past version pricing so no total guarantee but I would be surprised if it was much different. Of course you can download the lot to save on any taxes in your country but if your initial version was only pro basic version then be prepared to download over 100gb data. Hope this helps. He said he imported in RB, some recent suggestions sound like they may be BiaB methods.
In RB, looking at the track screen, beside the Track name should be a little 'M' icon you can click to Mute the track in RB. Or you could adjust the volume slider down to zero in either the Tracks window or the Mixer window..
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Everybody is fooled into thinking that music is linear it isn't The learning curve of Biab isn't that much I tend to really like Peter Gannon's video's for Biab 7 and 9 when they move to a treatment in the third person I don't feel as close so the new ones don't have the same sentimentality that the old ones do. Explore all aspects of the website I find gems I wouldn't know about. For example when I type in RealTrack artists It gives me a list of all the jazz artists and what Realsets they play in then I can study an instrument. Then I go find them on Groove music or Rhapsody and listen to their albums with a piece of paper folded into 16 squares and type the chord patterns in and get surprised. But I am sharing that because I do appreciate their website and make use of it.
