RealBand would be soooooo much more useful to me if I could press Play in my DAW (Sonar) and have both it and RealBand start. More broadly, all transport functions should be controllable from the DAW, and they should always stay in sync.

I just talked with tech support, and was told this is currently not possible, and not offered for 2016. If the 2016 update had this I would jump at it in a microsecond, but as things are I'm holding off.

2017...Pretty please? I would like to continue to support this program.

Thank you.

Not arguing but I am somewhat confused. Sonar is a daw, RealBand is a daw. What would you gain by having the transport controls of two daws linked?

As I said I'm curious as I presently use both RealBand and Cakewalk's consumer daw, Music Creator. I can not think of any reason to want their transport controls to be linked.

Hi Jim:

No harm at all in asking.

Sonar is a much more full-featured workstation. Also, I have extensive processing and effects which can be used only in Sonar. And then there's the fact that I have thousands of hours under my belt with Sonar and know it fairly well, while with RealBand i am still a novice and find it frustrating to use.

My desired workflow is this:

I get an idea worked up in Sonar and then type the chords into RealBand. I then try out various styles and parts to see what clicks. Maybe I'll find something I can import into my Sonar project, or maybe I won't use the RealBand part directly but it will give me an idea for something else.

But in order to do this i need to be able to have the various RealBand parts playing along in sync with the Sonar parts so I can audition them, which means controlling the transports in tandem.

I'm actually quite surprised that this is not already a standard feature.

Another way of stating this is that RealBand should be able to function as a true vst, not just as a so called plugin.

For example, I have Machine 2.0 and when I instantiate it in Sonar as a vst it automatically syncs with Sonar's transport.

I found in Sonar I can enable Midi Clock and send it through LoopMidi to midi input LoopMidi in real band while I went to options and set sync source to midi sync. I was able to sync it but there was no transport pause button on real band when I paused Sonar so I had to hit the play button first on real band then un-pause Sonar. I hope what I found will help you maybe.

HDC,

What you request would be possible if RealBand was equipped with Rewire, an applet designed to link two digital audio programs as Master and Slave. In this mode, the two share common transport controls AND can pipe 256 channels of audio and 4096 MIDI channels from Slave to Master. Sonar and most mainstream audio programs are Rewire capable.

Designed jointly by Propellerhead (Reason) and Steinberg (Cubase, Nuendo), Rewire is free to developers. This is a longstanding request by those aware of its advantages.
